Update on the Freerange

I haven't said much about my job lately, because not much exciting stuff had happened since the fire and the snake, and I didn't want to bore everybody. I'd like to think that as long as nothing goes wrong with the guarddog work, it's because I'm good enough at my job that the word is out that nobody better try to mess with my chickens. Then something unexpected happened.

I hadn't seen my frien Lucille for a couple of days, and I was getting kind of worried that she was sick -- or worse. Sadly (though not tragically), Lucille has moved away. I had heard her trying to sing a few days back and thought, "She's really nice, funny and good-looking, but she has an awful singing voice." Still, I figured that singers gotta sing, and I was okay with that.

But.

It turned out that Lucille was not a Lucille at all. She was a rooster, and she was trying to learn to crow. Whew. She -- I mean, he -- had to move to a farm outside of town. The city will let only hens live in people's' yards. A new, younger hen named Cora has moved next door, although I haven't met her yet. It seems that the other three chicks, Mabel and the twins (Frieda and Frieda, don't ask) have been kind of mean to Cora because she's a lot younger and she's not one of the cool kids yet. I already have had a stern conversation with the older girls about their manners, and I am looking forward to being friens forever with Cora, too.

I don't think Lucille was trying to fool us or anything. I just think she didn't know. I'm not sure how that works. I am hopeful that I will see her/him (renamed Luther) again or that he will come back for a vist -- for soldierchicken traing or rodeo camp, perhaps.

I will continue to be the best Guardian of the Freerangers possible.

I would pay a dollar to watch soldierchicken training on TV. Or wherever.

There are a lot of two-footers that are not sure, either. It has something to do with the rainbow I think, but not related to the bridge, so don't worry.
