114. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN-THE TURTLES (1967)
Album: single only (first album appearance was on Golden Hits)

Pretty much forgotten now, but it did peak at #12 on the charts. I have always found the song structure interesting, as
it basically goes from one musical passage to the next one to the next one, etc. without really repeating any of those
passages. Which wouldn't in itself put it on my list if each of those passages didn't boast a very catchy melody. But
they do, they do.

113. WHAT I LIKE ABOUT YOU-THE ROMANTICS (1980)
Album: The Romantics

Another mainstay of our band back in the day..and we were playing it long before it got popular in beer commercials.
It's a three-minute bundle of energy that rarely failed to get us and the audience going. It still gets me going, although these
days I'm careful not to let anybody see me when it does...

What I Like About You was a staple of the bar band which for a while was the highest paid entertainer in Colorado. They made it a lot longer than three minutes because the crowd always loved it so much. I suspect Mr. T. & Co. did the same thing. They worked hard for the money -- they played a different venue just about every weekend.

The band is semi-retired; whenever the lead vocalist gets a special gig he calls up his bandmates from around the state, and away they go. They played for a bunch of Republicans not long ago! Hey, their money is just as good as anybody's.
