Since some of you rely on my reports on the show, how can I forget?

Last night, they had "The World's Strongest Man" as a contestant. He walked on stage and bent a steel bar around his neck, as a souvenir for Jeff. He ended up missing the $175K question and fell to $25K. Anybody remember what a "linking verb" is?

Then they had "The World's Strongest Woman". She walked away with $50K, IIRC, just so she could have bragging rights on the World's Strongest Man.

And that's about all that needs mentioning.

More than needs mentioning, IMO.

I'd love to see a poll about the viewers. Are they watching: A) to see if they're smarter than a 5th grader; b) to see if they're smarter than the contestants; C) for the same reason people watch car wrecks, i.e., to view the carnage?

One more thing: the question writers of this show apparently don't consider the Magellanic Clouds, the Sagittarius Dwarf Elliptical Galaxy or the Canis Major Dwarf Galaxy to count as galaxies.

What is the closest galaxy to our own Milky Way galaxy?

Yeah, I remember, as a 4th grader, bringing in photocopies of Sky & Telescope articles to prove that our textbook was wrong.

No. My mother coined the term back when being a millionaire meant something. "We're thousandaires," she'd say proudly.

But I have auditioned for Jeopardy and I can say, it really is different when you're in the spotlight. Your mind goes blank at the simplest questions. So I don't criticize people for giving stupid answers anymore (well, not much, anyway).

We can help you overcome your inhibitions.

One time at a Blues-Balckhawk game, they did a thing called "Are You Smarter Than A Blackhawk Fan?", and had Chicago people answer questions. One was "What does N.H.L. stand for?" Not one of them had the right answer. I know they asked them a different question than that, then edited the clip, but it was still funny when they put it all together.

I infer the PTB of Amreican teaching have altered what used to be called a "copula" verb to a linking verb.

Of course, if one is studying English only, the Latin-derived term is less relevant.

And of course is far too close to that "copulate" verb
