63. BLOOD ON THE TRACKS-BOB DYLAN (1975)

Dylan's 60's albums get the bulk of the love from most folks (the ones who aren't Dylan detractors, that is), but this is my
favorite. With his classic 60's albums, I've always seemed to like about 50% of the songs..the others, not so much. Even "Blonde
On Blonde" has some songs I just can't stomach. Here, almost every tune hits the target. The opener "Tangled Up In Blue" ranks
among his best, and "Shelter From The Storm" and "Simple Twist Of Fate" are lovely compositions indeed. Overall the album is
pretty mellow...and even Dylan's singing is better than usual.

I've loved "Simple Twist of Fate" since I heard Joan Baez's version. I heard Dylan's original a couple years later, and I didn't love it. It's still a great song.

The opening trio of "Tangled Up In Blue", "Simple Twist Of Fate" and "You're a Big Girl Now" are some of the best songs I've ever heard to start an album. Much of the rest is good, but these three blow me away every time.
