144. RAG DOLL-THE FOUR SEASONS (1964)
Album: Rag Doll

The "sound" of Frankie Valli, as it was called on the record labels, was never put to better use, in my opinion,
than in service to this heart-tugger. I always felt so bad for that rag doll.

143. BENEDICTUS-STRAWBS (1972)
Album: Grave New World

The first cut on the first album released by the band following the departure of Rick
Wakeman to join Yes. It's a lovely progressive number. Bandleader Dave Cousins consulted
the I Ching for advice on where to go next. The answer he found is in the lyrics. The
instrumental break is played on a dulcimer going through a fuzzbox. You don't hear that
every day..

I always thought the Four Seasons' vocal arrangements were superior to The Beach Boys. Plus, their songs had a little more depth (hey, it was the early 60's).

Maybe it's just east coast bias.

Great song.

Never heard the Strawbs before. Interesting.

Love those old songs -- Rag Doll, Sherry, Walk Like a Man . . . Every kid on my block had those songs by heart -- right off the radio.

Love those new songs -- I never heard of Strawbs, but that doesn't mean it's not a great song.
