J! online test coming in October!

If you haven't heard already, J! is going to hold online tests on October 4, 5 and 6. You are eligible to take the test even if you took the test in January, as long as you weren't invited to an onsite audition or have been on the show (obviously). No one knows why this is happening - maybe they are going to start testing every 6 months, or maybe they've decided to move from January. No matter, the opportunity is there for the taking.

One other thing. You don't pick an audition city - one will be chosen for you based on the ZIP code that you enter when you register. According to the FAQ, "Due to an extremely limited number of audition appointments, those who pass the test will be included in a random selection process. Those selected to come to an audition will be invited to a city close to their ZIP/postal code (as entered during registration) to participate in a full audition process."

I wondered about the audition city thing. Didn't bother reading the rules. Hey, I'm a guy.

Once more into the breach, dear friends, once more ...

I'll pass. I have given up trying to get on game shows just as I have given up on looking for a different job. And for some of the same reasons.

I couldn't even get the registration page to come up-it kept rejecting the passwords I tried to use.

Does it list the audition cities anywhere? I'm curious as to where they are going.

I wonder if they didn't like people such as myself trying to game the system by choosing less competitive locations.

Sometimes the closest city is not the easiest one to get to. For example, the closest audition city to me might be Albuquerque, but it would be easier for me to get to Los Angeles or Las Vegas or Atlanta. And in the past you could choose a city not for its proximity, but for the chance to visit friends or family there, especially if they might provide a place for you to stay. So this change seems short sighted.

All the site says is that you will be invited to a site near your location based on ZIP code. That doesn't mean a lot.

What that could mean is that they are waiting on the test results to finalize a selection of cities. If a lot of people from New England pass, look for them to put Boston or Hartford on the list. If there's a lot of people from the south passing, they could have three or four southern cities.

Never give up! Never surrender!

Or, to paraphrase a bumper sticker, "They'll take away my right to take the J! test when they pry my cold dead fingers off the keyboard!"

Ia this new city selection process a permanent change or just an excuse to limit the number of people from smaller citties who want to take the test? I'm sure they are not going to have a lot of people from my area applying to take the test-I could be wrong. I liked it better when they had an actual list on the website that you could read and pick out which city would be most easy for you to get to. I was reading the J! bored last night and they hadn't even gotten to this wrinkle yet. There was a lot of discussion about if you could take the test again if you took it in January. Apparently you can't.

Well, apparently people on this Bored are smarter than those on the J! Bored or they know how to read. They've changed the wording and they now use the word "event" to refer to a three-day testing session. Here's what they say:
The online test for adults happens at the same time all across the country. National events are scheduled one to two times a year. Each event may extend across three nights, but you may only take the test once per event to qualify for an audition.

Adult online test events are scheduled to take place one to two times per year. If you took last year’s test, you are welcome to participate in this round of testing even if it hasn’t been a full year.
So, you can take the test if you also took it in January (unless you had an audition in the interim).

As far as the zip code and audition city thing goes, well they just might do it the way Wheel does it.

Wheel you just sign up and go into a random drawing forever and hope to be invited. I got invited about 8 years ago to audition in New York.

They were in New York but not going to Philadelphia, so they pulled a bunch of names from the Philadelphia market, and even though I'm not technically in that market, I am as far as Wheel and the FCC is concerned.

The good thing about this is I won't have to travel so far just for an audition, but the bad thing is I likely have stiffer competition in that random drawing for where I live.

I think I'll pass this time.

I've been doing successively worse on J! tests as I take them...my memory is not what it used to be...I would do better at multiple choice games where my memory of the answer can be triggered by seeing it.
