158. BLUE SKY-THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND (1972)
Album: Eat A Peach

Dickey Betts takes the lead on this amiable tune. I've always found it to be a good song to kick off a road trip
in the morning.

157. HOW CAN I BE SURE-THE RASCALS (1967)
Album: Groovin'

It's one of the only Rascals hits not sung by Felix Cavaliere, but Eddie Brigati makes the most of his chance on
this lovely waltz. The instrumentation makes it sound like he's serenading his love at a French cafe.

I really try my best to like the Allman Bros. I see their albums on the greatest of all time lists regularly and think "maybe this time" as I cue them up.

But there's something about them (and other Southern bands) that just doesn't click consistently in my brain. They have a repetitious sound that takes some getting used to and I just never have.

Blue Sky is a nice exception.

How Can I Be Sure is a 60s stalwart.

More of the heavyweights. I listened to Blue Sky -- and other Allman Brothers -- from Window Rock, AZ all the way home. My friend wouldn't put my tapes on. She did let me listen to Atlanta Blue by the Statler Brothers and then out it came and that was that for anything except Dickie Betts and Co.
