79. DON'T SHOOT ME, I'M ONLY THE PIANO PLAYER-ELTON JOHN (1973)
It was the following album "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" that most consider his crowning achievement, but I don't
think this one is very far behind. Strangely enough, the biggest hit on here (and one of his biggest hits period),
"Crocodile Rock", is WELL down my list of liked Elton songs..never been all that crazy about it. That's OK,
because there are a bounty of songs I DO like..a LOT. "Daniel", of course, but the rollicking "Teacher I Need You"
and "Elderberry Wine", and the beautiful "Blues For Baby And Me" and particularly "High Flying Bird", one of
Elton's prettiest yet not well-known melodies.

While "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" was more popular and a stellar commercial success, I find myself listening to "Tumbleweed Connection" (which I don't think had any singles successfully released) and "Madman Across the Water" more often. "Don't Shoot Me..." is probably my 4th favorite. I put "Captain Fantastic" in at #3, probably more due to the period of my life when it came out more than anything.
