Week 1 results and standings:

1. Vandalians 105 11-5
2. VikingsMark 99 10-6
3. Kroxquo's Spread Sheet 99 11-5
4. daks boys 97 10-6
5. LB's Evil Squirrels 91 12-4
6. The Boneheads 89 9-7
7. Andrewjackson 88 10-6
8. rayxtwo 87 9-7
9. TClark45 84 10-6
10. Kelly's Heroes 66 10-6

LB did what I usually do. He only missed 4 games but wound up in 5th place. I, on the other hand, am trying a new tactic: miss a bunch of games AND poorly use confidence points.

I have an uncanny knack for doing well at the beginning of the season (misplaced confidence points notwithstanding) only to fall apart later on in the season. Why? Knowledge to me is not power. I picked like crap when I used to follow football, and now do well when I'm completely in the dark and have no past records to fall back on. I was the only one to pick Denver over Carolina (Damn, did Manning retiring make the Broncos that sucky of a team in the eyes of everyone to be an underdog at home?), and had I not spotted the bizarre fact that the Pats were listed as underdogs (Oh, wait, I think Brady's suspended! Better pick AZ), I'd have won that game as well (though it was the only one of my four losses I didn't have a double digit number of points attached to)....

At least this time I won't lead from wire to third-to-last week only to fall into second...

I usually get off to a terrible start and have to claw my way back up to my usual "middle of the pack" status.

I'll take the quick start because the inevitable "doomer" week usually happens in late September/early October.

Manning retiring actually made us a better team, except for his legendary sheriff status, except Oz had served an exemplary apprenticeship, except the traitor promptly bailed for greener pastures.

Here's hoping.

I want to finish with the best record, but in the bottom half of total points. I think I'm well on my way to that...

It looks like my best chance at relevancy is for about half the pool to forget to make their picks.

Finally, I'm going to beat the Evil Squirrels!

My Chickens' powder fluff football team can beat the Squirrels, even without Lucille.

Man, I must've taken a bath in the Monday night game. I had the high score when I checked yesterday... and was in 6th overall.

Yep, stupid Broncos. They've taken the Raiders' usual spot of being the team that's killed me all year...

12 games complete in Week 8 and the only red on my sheet is incorrectly picking Cleveland. The funny thing is it only cost me one point, yet I still trail for the week's top score. Perhaps me or someone else will now switch tomorrow's winner between the Vikings/Bears in the hopes of taking the week. Bwah ha ha!
