Today's album is some pretty serious stuff:


83. THE WALL-PINK FLOYD (1979)

A stunning piece of work, this concept album detailing the breakdown of a traumatized and emotionally isolated rock star
is not an easy listen...certainly not a party record despite the hit single "Another Brick In The Wall (Part II)". Classic
Rock staples like "Run Like Hell", "Hey You" and "Comfortably Numb" (with an outstanding David Gilmour guitar solo) are
deservedly considered highlights, but it's the dramatic pieces of music that piece the story together that make this a great
work.

This shall always be the album that killed Pink Floyd. Waters and Gilmour were feuding about everything by this time, so it's amazing they could even pull this off.

I think it has stood the test of time quite well because of its uniqueness. Long-form songs held together by a series of vignettes is a difficult task to pull off, but it works nicely on The Wall, even with Roger Waters' often annoying voice.

I never saw them live, but I heard workers built a wall between the band and the audience, then every sang "tear down the wall" at the appropriate time and down it came.

Definitive proof that, whether you're a bar band or one of the biggest rock bands in the world, NEVER ask an audience "What song is it you wanna hear?"


There are a couple of concert videos in which the album is performed in its entirety, where the wall is slowly constructed and torn down as you describe.
