176. SAVE IT FOR ME-THE FOUR SEASONS (1964)
Album: Rag Doll
When naming the highlights of the group's many hits, this one is usually overlooked. Too bad, because I think it
has one of their nicest melodies. Along with the Supremes, this was my dad's favorite group amongst the rock
era acts. He had their Rag Doll and second collection of hits albums and played them often. He loved this song, as do I.
THIS marks the halfway point of our song list.....
175. DEDICATED TO THE ONE I LOVE-THE MAMAS & THE PAPAS (1967)
Album: The Mamas and Papas Deliver
It's not often I vastly prefer a cover version of a song to the original. Such is the case here, however. I never cared
much for the Shirelles performance of the song. This, though, is magic. The vocal arrangement is pure gold, and I
love the saloon-style piano in the midsection. Leaves the Shirelles in the dust as far as I'm concerned.
