The Boney 500: Songs 184 and 183

#1 Post by T_Bone0806 » Thu Aug 18, 2016 9:33 am

After today's rockin' album selection, we need to catch our breath and mellow out with these pretty, albeit pretty obscure, tunes next up on the song list:

184. HUNG UP IN YOUR EYES-BRIAN HYLAND (1967)
single

This was a moderate local hit in my area as a youngster. Nationally it never saw the Top 40, peaking at #58. Never understood why, as it is
a pretty little ballad that had all the hooks and appeal of other songs that were Top 10 successes. What really makes this
song rank so high on my list, along with the qualities I just mentioned, is that my dad absolutely loved this song. So much
that he recruited me to help him write down the lyrics. I remember quite well picking up the needle and putting it back down
again as we deciphered the lyrics line by line. So that memory is what lifts an otherwise very enjoyable but ordinary ballad
into the territory of a cherished piece of music.

183. GO MY WAY-GORDON LIGHTFOOT (1971)
Album: Summer Side Of Life

There are quite a few Lightfoot songs I like, but this is my favorite. It's a simple melody but, heck, the notes go together
so nicely.

OK, the imbedded videos are showing up again after a few days of missing in action. I'm confused but I'm not gonna question it..
