One obscurity and one well-known number for today's song unveilings...
196. PARIS 1919-JOHN CALE (1973)
Album: Paris 1919
He was a member of the Velvet Underground with Lou Reed and as such is a member of the Rock Hall of Fame. And honestly, I
don't think there's another song that I've heard, with that group OR solo, that I've particularly liked.
However, this classically-flavored piece, which I first heard on one of those Warner Brothers samplers you could send in for back in the
early 70's, has always been a favorite.
195. SEPTEMBER-EARTH, WIND & FIRE (1978)
Album: Best Of..(released as single)
This song is just so dang happy it pretty much defies you to keep a frown on your face. It also has been known to cause
wiggling of the gluteus maximus area, both voluntary and involuntary. Even people with no rhythm whatsoever can approximate
some form of movement that could be interpreted as dancing to this song. And like I said....HAPPY! Seriously. It makes
Pharell Williams' song sound like Chopin's Funeral March.
