T-Mobile sigh

So I'm inside T-Mobile store because something is eating up my data-connection points again. At one point I hit a "you have a virus" site, which of course I backed out of. They tell me they don't have anti-virus-scanning software. Great. They tell me I should "clear my history". Which is just another way of saying "We don't know". Great.
I did clear my history from Soundscan, the only thing I've been using lately that I don't usually use.
And have been going to places w/ free wifi in hope that scans Android runs when I'm on wifi (I've limited scans & updates to when I'm on wifi, except for some that ignore the command) will catch & correct whatever it is.
Meanwhile, I bought another 30 day pass, which I now because of the data-slurp need. They don't turn it on. I go back (I'm still in store, having had this happen before) & beg them to please activate pass. At least they go back into screen & are able to activate pass.
Sigh.

I used to be able to get pass by phone. Then they fired their good call center.
Sigh.

I have no idea why T-Mobile has no antivirus on their phones but you can download a free one through the Google Play store. Just search for "antivirus".

I had an antivirus program pre-installed on my T-Mobile phone.
I've also never had anything other than very good customer service from them.

This is a tablet, not a phone.
I am leery of downloaded stuff, that's why I asked the store to recommend one, & to run tablet through their virus-check software, neither of which they would do. They claim not to have virus-checker software.
Android runs scans of various tablet apps whenever I'm connected to wifi (I spent time in the T-Mobile store on their wifi hoping those would run, but none did).
When I bought the tablet I asked about anti-virus stuff & was told "Android runs that" but nothing of the ton of mostly-junk preloaded on here calls itself an anti-virus.
My experience w/ T-Mobile is "get the store manager to help you if you can" & that they lie through their teeth on TV ads but in store manager will tell you "only latest equipment is helped by system upgrades; eventually we'll roll it out to older equipment".

Phone or tablet, what I said.

I years ago downloaded an app which was supposed to allow the Android tablet to play mp3s & midi files (some midis will play, some won't; Android has something political against mp3s) only to find that (a) it didn't work & (b) articles in Cyrillic started showing up on my browser.
I ditched that app.
I am currently reading up on anti-virus software for Android.

And oh-yeah I before the data-drain started I had downloaded the CBS app so I could watch, under wifi of course, the 3/4 of a Brain Dead ep I had missed. At which point I found out that some shows you now can only watch with CBS All-Access, for which you eventually have to pay, & Brain Dead is one of them. I don't pay for anything self-renewing w/ credit card over the internet. Or any other medium. Those services are just too hard to cancel, I have found out the hard way.
I admit I didn't go in far enough to find if CBS All-Access actually had a "check in the mail" monthly option.
I have cancelled out the CBS app, as I found out last Nov those network apps are data-drains even when the tablet is off.

I also found a Facebook window that hadn't closed when I thought I'd closed it. That can eat up dasta-connection points too.

Tab just did one of its "all 135 apps are safe" scans. Which is good. What's not good is that it ran it when I'm not on wifi. I have now to find where that is supposed to be set, since obviously its gotten unset. I should have taken notes. And its not where I'm looking for it.
Of the 135 apps, I actually use maybe 5. And I don't count 135 either.
I count 29. Only ones I downloaded are Spotify & Soundcloud; you can see (hear, actually) where my interests lie.
Whenever I go to de-install one of the "comes w/ tab" apps, I get a "your tab may cease to run" warning, even if its a notepad app.

My guess on the "unsetting" is the most recent OS update. Probably good to check those types of settings after each one.

T-Mobile never warned about an OS update. I wish it would get an update that allowed it to get 4G instead of 2G reception in Maine, but I was there a couple weeks ago, & still no go.

Well, under settings->about tablet->system updates->settings (gotta love these buried menus) I still have "only when attached to wifi" checked for system updates.
Apparently none of that applies to app scan that system just ran.
Which scan, folks, is why Android claims you don't need to install anti-virus software, though other sources claim you do.
Also, that "apps are safe" msg isn't stored in their messsges app. That sort of msg just flashes by you at top of screen.
