All 3 of today's song entries have a bit of an ethereal air to them, I think...but they each feature a gorgeous melody...
209. LUCKY ME-TONY BANKS (1979)
Album: A Curious Feeling
Banks was the keyboard player and a founding member of Genesis. He wrote or co-wrote many
of their classics and some of their most beautiful songs. I think this song from his first
solo album ranks with pretty much anything Genesis released during that time period. Just gorgeous.
208. MORE THAN THIS-ROXY MUSIC (1982)
Album: Avalon
For a song that missed the Hot 100, I seem to recall hearing a lot of it. Maybe it was
on MTV. At any rate, it's smooth, classy and full of style, and a really good 80's tune.
207. JOHNNY & MARY-ROBERT PALMER (1980)
Album: Clues
For my money, Palmer is one of the great all-time vocalists. However, he doesn't even break a
sweat on this one. His vocal is very low-key...which is a perfect match for the song itself,
which has a very sad, resigned feel to it. Sometimes, as they say, less is more. The end result
touches my heart. The man knew what he was doing.
