The Boney 500: Songs 233-231

#1 Post by T_Bone0806 » Fri Jul 22, 2016 9:56 am

Our final songs for the week. I'll reveal the next 15 beginning Monday...

233. NEVER MY LOVE-THE ASSOCIATION (1967)
Album: Insight Out

The understatement in the lead vocal is perfect is quite effective and the arrangement
of the background vocals is wonderful. This remains a ballad of timeless beauty.

232. THE OCEAN-LED ZEPPELIN (1973)
Album: Houses Of The Holy

A good rocker built around another cool Jimmy Page riff, time signature
changes and even ending with a little doo wop for good measure.

231. TRUE LOVE WAYS-PETER & GORDON (1965)
Album: True Love Ways

OK, this is somewhat sacreligious to say, but I like this remake of Buddy Holly's
classic better than the original. Don't get me wrong, I like Buddy's as well, but
something about this one....maybe it's because I heard this one first, maybe it's
my love for the British Invasion that rocked my world and took me to a new level
of musical infatuation, maybe I'm just a sucker for extra drama in the performance
sometimes. I do like when Gordon Waller's voice goes all deep on the bridge. Hell,
I just think it's a great love song, whether it's these guys or Buddy. But this gets my
nod.
