The Boney 500: Songs 242-240

Three more of my favorite tunes:

242. MIDNIGHT CRUISER-STEELY DAN (1972)
Album: Can't Buy A Thrill

Donald Fagen's voice is tied so definitively to the sound of Steely Dan that many people forgot,
or don't know, that he wasn't originally the only vocalist in the band. On their first album,
there are three: Fagen, vocalist David Palmer, and drummer Jim Hodder, who sings this one, and
honestly doesn't stray very far away from Fagen's vocal stylings. It's a good tune at any rate,
an underrated entry in their catalog in my estimation.

241. RAMBLIN' GAMBLIN' MAN-BOB SEGER SYSTEM (1969)
Album: Ramblin' Gamblin' Man

This rocks right from the beginning, with those kickbutt drums, followed by
a heavy dose of organ and Seger's take no prisoners vocal. It would be 7 long years
before he hit the charts again, but he got off to a great start initially with this.
Didn't know this until researching, but founding Eagle Glenn Frey sang backup and played guitar
on this. Small world.

There are a couple of videos with better quality sound, but I HAD to post this one. It's
from a late 60's tv show that was hosted by Paul Revere and the Raiders. Cracked me up.

240. LODI-CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL (1969)
Album: Green River

Country flavored goodie that was the flip side of Bad Moon Rising but received a good
amount of airplay as well, so it was basically a double sided hit, as were most of
their singles. This "weary of the road" song was an early example of what would become
a wellworn theme of the musician's life not always being all it was cracked up to be.
Sad but pretty melody.

I was unaware that "Ramblin Gamblin Man" was that old. The 70's station I listened to a long time ago played it occasionally, and I just assumed it came along with Bob's other hits....

Do they play this version or the live version, which a lot of stations do, from his album "Live Bullet", which WAS released in the 70's?
