WWTBAM Bored

I typically host some Bored challenge (Decades or TEN!) in the fall and this year I'd like to do something a little different. For this to work, I'll need input from players (hey, that's you people).

Here's the pitch: You've likely all seen game shows or been in trivia contests where all the questions are seemingly "tailor made" just for you. Every subject is right up your alley and you knock 'em down as soon as you see them. What a great feeling!

Coming this fall, you will get a chance to showcase your knowledge on the subject(s) of your choosing. Get ready for:

You pick the subject, I write the questions. It's you against the Bored.

Ah, but there's more. No one but me and that one BB (the "expert") will know whose wheelhouse has been chosen. Only I will know the questions. Any player scoring equal to or higher than the "expert" will get bonus points. You'll also get to choose who you think the expert is.

This will take some time to set up, so I'll need your help (if you are interested, of course). Anyone who wants to be an "expert" needs to send me one or more subject matters that I can turn into questions. Now is where it gets tricky. The expert subjects can't be too vague (like US History) or too narrow (like Granite City politics--sorry, LB) and should be like Jeopardy categories. Try to pick a subject and go a level down.

Instead of baseball, choose baseball in the 1950s or The Houston Astros or The Deadball Era. Instead of rock music, choose Rock n Roll Hall of Famers or guitar greats or Billboard #1 hits.

You get the idea. It's your wheelhouse!

I'll happily work with you to get one or more subjects we can use. It's hard to tell until the subjects come in what will work best.

Would "Things Only Wayne Knows" be too narrow?

Personally I always like when the Final Jeopardy category is "The Universe"...well thanks for narrowing that down Alex.

This sounds great! I'm afraid it's going to end up like Jeopardy, though..a few categories I could run, but too many I'd be sitting there motionless with a blank stare. I mean, with all the smartypantses around here, you just KNOW someone's going to submit "12th Century Architecture" for their wheelhouse.

I gotta think on this a bit. It would be too obvious for me to submit a music related topic.

The topics I've seen thus far are pretty straightforward.

Submit what you know best. It's your wheelhouse.

I vote for the American flag.

There's bound to be overlap (I've already seen repeated topics), but most folks have provided several topics to help spread it out.

I will adjust to common categories accordingly.

thank you for doing this, it should be interesting. I suspect it will be a lot of work on your part, so thank you again.

I've heard back from 11 BBs so far. Thanks to all those who want to be an "expert."

If at any time you think of more, just send them in.

For those who haven't, it's not too late to get in your wheelhouse subjects. Still waiting to hear from some of the usual suspects.
