My oldest just paid off her student loans, only 14 months after graduating, less than 12 months after starting her job.

$36k, paid off by working 12 hour shifts, 7 days a week, living on a ship (about 80% of the time), not counting about a month off during that time. She has no living expenses, and unlike the others on the ship who spend a lot of their earning in bars when in port, she very seldom drinks.

I wish I could have lived expense free when I got out of college. I had no loans to pay off, but it would have been nice to put money away that early in life.

It's not the same thing, but Mrs. SSS and I, as of a month ago, are now completely debt free (other than what's currently on credit cards from month to month, primarily monthly bills like the cable bill and any on-line purchases during the month).

On the other hand, our daughter, who has been living with us for over three years now, is having her car voluntarily repossessed this week. I don't even want to think about how much money she owes (she's still in school and she's probably twice the age of BiT's daughter). However, every time I get a call from someone wanting to collect on one of her debts (she only uses the landline as her phone number with creditors, since she never answers that phone; everyone else, she gives her cell phone number to), I tell them that if they were dumb enough to extend credit to her, they deserve what they get.

Impressive. I can not say that, unfortunately. And with two in college and one more to go, I may never get there.
