BTW do you have a sense of at least how many in the past who get the card get the call to be taped (rough %?) - is there any difference between local contestants (NYC environs) and those that have to travel longer distances? Unfortunately, no one knows for sure. TPTB are very close-mouthed about anything related to this.

In the past, people have posted tidbits of information that suggest that your chances are good (maybe at least 50%, very possibly higher, but these are wild guesses). The general consensus is that being close to NYC helps one's chances somewhat on the theory that you can be in their "Minuteman pool" (my new term meaning available for a taping on very short notice). Lots of talk is about about WE/WE contestants (where else/what else) dominating the contestants we see on the show. The main reason we see so many NYC-area contestants is because so many of them try to get on. There are lots of LA-based shows which have a similar LA-bias. Nonetheless, having contestants who live close enough to the studio gives TPTB a bit of flexibility in scheduling the show. So, I believe it's a modest advantage in becoming a contestant.

On the other hand, it seems that more people are getting the happy card this year than in past years. That's purely my subjective impression, though. If that's the case, then one's chances to actually tape after receiving the happy card a somewhat lower than in the past. Again, that's just my personal speculation.

In any event, good luck with getting the call!

I've always suspected that the Millionaire producers are more likely to pick a person who comes from out of state than someone in state. I don't have a problem with it, in fact, I think it's very fair. If you come all the way in from Calfornia just to audition then I think you should get some special recogninition. Although if I am right it's a bummer for me, I come from Long Island.

Another thought (and I apoligize if this is already obvious to everybody) is that Millionaire TPTB have slightly different logistics than J! TPTB. For J!, they manage to schedule everything a bit more neatly and orderly than for Millioniare. The main reason for this is that J! consistently uses 3 contestants per show (with some very slight variations in case of ties). Millionaire has much greater variation in the number of contestants appearing on a show depending on number of llamas or those who go deep into a stack. That variability can create some scheduling crunches for which having NYC-area people in the pool can be helpful in resolving.

You remember my online friend Voltaire Ronquillo, whom I posted about earlier this year? The guy who helped his friend Adam win $1,000,000 on "Price Is Right"? He told me yesterday that he will be taking the audition in Washington DC on August 15.

Strike one and I'm out. I completely borked the test yesterday. I accidentally skipped an answer, threw the whole Scantron sheet off, and didn't have time to correct everything.

Oh well. I seem to traditionally fail my first audition test every year anyway, so I am not terribly upset.

I've already signed up for the Halloween edition auditions, still awaiting a response but the audition date for those is July 8. I intend to dress as myself. It should be fabulous. I am anticipating that my corset is going to wreak havoc upon the metal detector.

Rejected yet again . This one was a real heartbreaker, as it had been our best audition to date. They even had us sign a second set of release/consent forms---for photographs which we had neglected to bring. I obviously shouldn't have read too much into that. I'm thinking we'll probably wait until Spring 2009 to audition again. TPTB might consider 3 auditions in one season to be excessive. We did however win a WWTBAM t-shirt---for being the couple engaged the longest--just 1 t-shirt though, not 1 for each of us.

Sorry about that, HoB. They certainly don't make it easy to get into the Hotseat, but tenacity may pay off in the end.
