I wonder if that's coincidence, or maybe different criteria, different AP's doing the interviewing, more relaxed attitude in NY may have played a factor.
My own :( aside, it's too bad that was close to a unanimous result on the road.
I thought suitdude went to NYC to audition.
He did indeed go to New York, but he is comfortable in his own highly eccentric orbit.
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

I guess I meant early summer auditions, before the road shows.
Suitguy, aren't you in a sort of unique position? I mean, you KNOW when you will be called! When, exactly, do they tape Halloween week? It will be a few weeks before that day.
When you get there, be sure to say hello to Jack Sparrow, from me!

Oh but wouldn't I LOVE to know when they are taping Halloween week. I am living in fear that when they do call I will have an unreconcilable conflict, and there a no back up dates for Halloween. If I knew when they were taping I'd gladly keep that week open on just the chance that I will get the call.

I do have the consolation of knowing that if they don't call by the first of Oct, they never will and I can get out of the pool and dry off.

Usage Notes:
  • use green type to indicate a passed quiz, or red type to indicate an unsuccessful quiz.

use the single smiley :) or :( to signify the receipt of the "happy card" notifying you that you're in the contestant pool.

use the super smiley :D to signify that you've gotten "the call" for a tape date.

If anyone reading this happened to audition in Minneapolis last monday (8/11) and took part in the second (~8:30am) batch of test-ees, could you PM me?

I'm trying to remember the details of a particular question or two...

thanks!

Welcome to the Bored, doitneatly!

Congrats on passing the written tests last week. Did you get a second, videotaped interview out of those? You haven't actually received a post card from them yet, saying that you're in the pool, have you?

I don't think Bob explained the smiley face code in this list, but he saves the :) for when someone gets the Happy Card (saying that you're in the pool) and the :D for when someone gets The Call to come be a contestant.

Yes, I got the second videotaped interview. And no, I have not yet received any postal notification. (thanks for the pointer on the smileyface usage, I corrected my post and included that guideline...)

This isn't quite right (if right is defined by how I've been doing it). I use green and the "ordinary" happy face to denote receipt of a happy card. I use blue and the big grin to denote a tape date. I don't change colors for passing the written test -- I consider that an interim stage, primarily intended to alert us that a card is expected. --Bob

And the frowny face :( means that we've gotten the Sad Card, i.e., the "thanks but no thanks" card.

Ah, if only it did mean we all made it into the pool...

While we're discussing font colors and emoticons: Bob hasn't been adding any notation for the Movie edition or other special tests, which he ought to do for completeness sake.

And, with the new audition procedure this season, it has become important to note whether or not someone advanced to a second interview.

Who do you think he is, lb with his obsessive notebook records?

Bob's obsessive in a different way--he likes keeping a hundred draft versions of the list in the thread, instead of just editing a master list.

I'm just saying that if we're going to keep track of our auditions, there's important information that needs to be included!

The data from this year indicate that it may pay to audition very early in the process.

Before June 10th (Shade's audition):
14 auditioners - all passed the test.
4 known Sad Cards
2 unknown results and presumed Sad Cards
8 Happy Cards
2 recipients of "The Call"

After June 10th:
27 auditioners
6 non-passers (1 retested with unknown results)
1 unknown pass/fail
5 recent road auditioners with no Card yet
13 Sad Cards
2 Happy Cards (1 for a specialty show/week)

From a 57% success rate (8/14) to 13% (2/15). There definitely seems to be a skew in the curve. Part of it, and maybe the biggest part, is that many of the early auditioners on the list are newbies here, while more of the later auditioners are long-time (relatively) BBs and probably serial auditioners. (I consider myself one of the latter, for all that I've only done three and never more than once in a year.)
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.
