Game #160: A Peculiar Little Lyrics Game
Identify the 96 songs in the clues below. (Most are from the pop charts, but we make several excursions elsewhere.) Then, match them into 50 pairs according to a Tangredi, or principle you must discover for yourself. Four songs will be used twice, each in two different capacities.
The Tangredi may reveal itself fairly early on -- if you see it IMMEDIATELY, say so but don't blow the gaffe too soon - but the matches should still be fun. They don’t follow a rigid formula, and some will be more obvious than others. I’ll be interested to see how far you can get without resorting to research.
1. Showin' how funky and strong is your fight,
It doesn't matter who's wrong or right.
2. And our lives are forever changed,
We will never be the same,
The more you change, the less you feel.
Believe, believe in me, believe
That life can change, that you're not stuck in vain.
3. The guys come to race her from all around,
But she'll give ’em a length, then she'll shut ’em down.

When you get what you want but not what you need,
When you feel so tired but you can't sleep,
Stuck in reverse.
5. One that won't make my mouth too dry
Or make my eyes too red.
6. He takes me deep-sea fishing in a submarine,
We go to drive-in movies in a limousine,
He's got a whirly-birdy and a 12-foot yacht,
Ah, but that’s not all he's got!
7. I was like, good gracious a*s bodacious
Flirtatious, tryin’ to show faces
Lookin’ for the right time to shoot my steam (you know)
Lookin’ for the right time to flash them keys.
8. Keeping my eyes open
I cannot afford to sleep,
Giving away promises
I know that I can't keep,
Nothing fills the blackness
That has seeped into my chest.
I need you in my blood,
I am forsaking all the rest.
9. Don't be a drag, just be a queen
Whether you're broke or evergreen.
You're black, white, beige, chola descent,
You're Lebanese, you're orient.
10. When I became of age, my mother called me to her side.
She said, "Son, you're growing up now, pretty soon you'll take a bride.”

And listen closely to what I say.
And if you do this

You're runnin' at a different speed,
Your heart beats in double time,
Another kiss and you'll be mine.
13. I'll try every trick in the book
With every step that you take,
Everywhere that you look
Just look and you'll find
I'll be waiting in line, I'll be waiting in line.

But he doesn't realize he hurts her so much.

And said, “Dear boy, won't you come home with me?”

Don't punish me with brutality.
29. But every song's like gold teeth, grey goose, trippin' in the bathroom,
Blood stains, ball gowns, trashin' the hotel room.

So I hopped into town for a satellite dish,
I tied it to the top of my Japanese car,
I came home and I pointed it out into the stars.
