The Boney 500: Songs 338-336

Here are my final three songs for the week. We'll continue with songs 335-333 on Monday.

338. WHAT IS LIFE-GEORGE HARRISON (1970)
Album: All Things Must Pass

One of those songs that make it darn hard to be or stay in a bad mood when you
hear it. Such a bright, cheerful sound that it almost seems like it should be a
Ringo song. But no, it's a George song, and a great one, too.

337.THE NIGHT BEFORE-THE BEATLES (1965)
Album: Help!

A rollicking number from the Beatles' second movie, it's the first of many (yeah,
I know, big surprise) Beatles' tunes on the list. Not one of the group's creative
benchmarks, just a fun little romp. Unfortunately I can't post the original, as
Youtube has taken it down, but this rendition, live at the BBC, is pretty faithful
to the original.

336. LIFE ON MARS?-DAVID BOWIE (1971)
Album: Hunky Dory

You wouldn't guess it from the song's title, but this is a stunningly beautiful
song, complete with unusual chord progressions and melodic u-turns. Just wow.

I really like this song, not necessarily for itself. The other two today, yes, stand alone favorites. This song I like because of it being played as a recurring theme/background in the show with the same name. My like of the show was much in part to the period, 1970's and the other songs used in the soundtrack of the episodes. If not for the show, this song would be unknown to me. Which is sad, because it is a good song, by itself.

I also liked that show, BiT. So much so that I bought the dvd set of the series. Whoever picked the music for the show certainly knew their stuff. Some excellent and usually not obvious choices.

OK, so I'm an ignoramus, but I had no idea that's a George Harrison song. Wow!

Does anyone else see the first messages in this thread as being posted in June rather than July?

I guess it has to do with TubaDave's colonoscopy work on the Bored. No biggie, just gave me a start.

They were posted in June (Note the countdown numbers)... it's just a coincidence Sprots brought the thread forward exactly one month later....

Wow. I did not think we'd been doing the countdown even this long.
