An event (almost) 59 years in the making...

A few years back, our pal Starfish talked about a list of his 2,000 favorite songs, ranked in order. This naturally intrigued me to the point where I wondered if I could do something similar, leading to assign myself the daunting task of weeding through almost 14,000 tunes on my iPod in an effort to determine my favorite songs and albums of all time. I finally completed my mission, at least as well as it can be completed, and the result is The Boney 500 (named of course after the Indy 500 running today)..my 350 favorite songs and 150 favorite albums ever. 2,000 songs was just too much for me to try and rank, and really, how do I determine the difference between #1,824 and #1,655? My first goal was to narrow it down to 100 songs, but I should've known better..the least amount of songs I felt comfortable reducing it to wound up being 350, and the last 50 to be eliminated involved some really difficult choices. As soon as I had the final list, I immediately began second guessing myself, and will undoubtedly do so every time I look at the list, or hear a song and really enjoy it, then wonder why it didn't make my list...but I promised myself that once I finished, I would not change anything no matter what, so for better or worse, this is what I'm sticking to.
Naturally, there are disclaimers involved here. The list does NOT include classical music, Big Band and standards, Broadway and movie musicals, Christmas songs, etc. I mean, how do I rank the second movement of Beethoven's 7th, Duke Ellington's "Take The A Train", or "Someone To Watch Over Me" alongside "Rama Lama Ding Dong"? It just seemed impossible. Perhaps at another time I'll do a list of favorites from each of the other genres. For now, I will limit eligibility to pop and rock music released during my lifetime (I was born in '57).
This is as definitive a list as I'm ever going to come up with, and I'll start revealing it a little at a time beginning tomorrow (Monday). For the first 8 weeks, it'll be 3 songs and 1 album per day, Monday through Friday. Starting with Week 9, it'll be 2 songs and 1 album per day Monday through Friday. If all goes according to plan
my favorite album will be posted on December 23rd, and my favorite song ever will be unveiled on December 30th.
Hope you enjoy.
