Triple play

On Friday the White Sox pulled off your basic 9-3-2-6-2-5 triple play against the Rangers.

While going around the horn is what people usually think about when they think of a triple play, most TP's are in fact not basic and are a nightmare for us scorecard toters like this one was...

The very first major league game I saw in person involved an around-the-horn double play that missed being a triple play by a half step. I've only seen one or two of those on TV highlights. In order to do it, the third baseman has to be playing fairly close to the bag and get a ball that's either hit right to him or between him and the bag.

Most triple plays involve bad baserunning decisions by one or more runners.
