There are lots of songs with the name of a state in the title, but there are two states which seem to find their way into titles more often than most. Those two are featured here. One point for the title, one point for the artist, and there is a three-point bonus question.
1. I been all around this great big world
And I seen all kinds of girls
Yeah, but I couldn't wait to get back in the states
Back to the cutest girls in the world
2. I find me a place in a box car
So I take my guitar to pass some time
Late at night when it's hard to rest
I hold your picture to my chest and I feel fine
3. Stopped into a church
I passed along the way
Well, I got down on my knees (got down on my knees)
And I pretend to pray (I pretend to pray)
4. Other arms reach out to me
Other eyes smile tenderly
Still in peaceful dreams I see
The road leads back to you
5. Took my chances on a big jet plane
Never let them tell you that they're all the same.
The sea was red and the sky was grey
Wondered how tomorrow could ever follow today.
6. He said he's goin' back to find
Goin' back to find
Ooh, what's left of his world
The world he left behind
Not so long ago
7. And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say...
8. Well, they hung my brother before I could say
The tracks he saw while on his way
To Andy's house and back that night were mine
And his cheatin wife had never left town
That's one body that'll never be found
You see little sister don't miss when she aims her gun
Bonus: What song written by JJ Cale and also recorded by a popular Southern group mentions both of these states in the same verse?

1. I been all around this great big world
And I seen all kinds of girls
Yeah, but I couldn't wait to get back in the states
Back to the cutest girls in the world
California Girls - David Lee Roth's version's the best (Plus, it doesn't get played constantly over the summer at Mecca like that other version...)
2. I find me a place in a box car
So I take my guitar to pass some time
Late at night when it's hard to rest
I hold your picture to my chest and I feel fine
3. Stopped into a church

Midnight Train To Georgia - Gladys Knights & The Pips
7. And still those voices are calling from far away,

The tracks he saw while on his way

The Night The LIghts Went Out In Georgia - Vicki Lawrence
Blanket guess of Georgia on My Mind - Ray Charles for the unanswered ones
Bonus: What song written by JJ Cale and also recorded by a popular Southern group mentions both of these states in the same verse?

There are lotsa songs about Colorado too.
Colorado, My Home Sweet Home -- Harve Presnell
Rocky Mountain High -- John Denver
In the land where the columbines grow -- It's the state song; I doubt it's been recorded.
America the Beautiful -- Kate Smith
Colorado Girl -- High Rollers
Smuggler's Blues -- Glenn Frey
Colorado Christmas -- Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
OK, not as many as I thought.

Can't believe I missed #5. I've only played that album 574,444 times.
Of course, 564,344 of those times were side one only, but still.....

I'm pretty sure the two states must be Oklahoma and Texas, because they are the most important, but I don't actually recognize any of these lyrics for any of these songs. One of them probably is
Oklahoma!" and another is
The Yellow Rose of Texas. I just don't know which.
Bonus: What song written by JJ Cale and also recorded by a popular Southern group mentions both of these states in the same verse?
If I don't have it confused with something else, I think the bonus song might be
Let Jesus Take the Wheel on a Road Trip from Oklahoma to Texas, as recorded by Carrie Underwear and the Lake Texhoma Gospel Choir.
