Lyrically Speaking - 3/31/16

#1 Post by elwoodblues » Wed Mar 30, 2016 7:48 pm

Today's theme can be found in either the title or the quoted lyrics. One point for the title, one point for the artist and there is a three-point bonus question.

1. The first mate he got drunk
And broke in the Cap'n's trunk
The constable had to come and take him away

2. I've been lost now, days uncounted
And it's months since I've seen home
Can you hear me, can you hear me
Or am I all alone

3. But when the taxman comes to the door
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yes
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no millionaire's son, no

4. Will you make me so happy
For the rest of my life?
Will you take me away
And will you make me your wife?

5. Well if you want to be a movie star
I'll get a ticket to Hollywood.
But if you want to stay just the way you are
You know I think you really should.

6. Even clouds seem bright and breezy
'Cause the livin' is free and easy
See the rat race in a new way
Like you're walkin' up to a new day
It's a wise thing if you're clever

7. I begin dreaming
[title]
'Till I see Marianne walk away
I see my Marianne walkin' away

8. He want to take you from the racket boss
He want to save you, but the cause is lost

Bonus: What is the theme?

Synchronicity is a new word I learned this week at home school, and synchronicity is the reason that I know this song. It's Sloop John B, by the Beach Boys (and some other people, too, I think.)

Anyway, I've watched that video a lot because it has an ad that plays before the song, and the ad is about a ninja! I watch lots of YouTubes about ninja-ing, as they are very instructive. Anyway, Lizbit had told me to watch the music video, partly because of the ad and partly because she's putting together a mix tape of music that she wants to play at the Bark Like a Piratedog workshop she's planning for September 19. All of you and your four-footer friens are invited to participate. (Parrots, too. Parrots are particularly welcome, considering the whole pirate thingie.)

We think the theme for this game is Songs for Bark Like a Piratedog Day!

Here is a picture of one of our anticipated participants about what's to come:

2. I've been lost now, days uncounted

Not sure what this is. It's NOT "Skipper Dan" by Weird Al nor "The Captain" by Guster.

3. But when the taxman comes to the door
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yes
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no millionaire's son, no

Fortunate Son - CCR

4. Will you make me so happy
For the rest of my life?
Will you take me away

The System of Dr. Tarr and Professor Fether - Alan Parsons Project (COOL! This is on their first album, Tales of Mystery and Imagination, where all the songs are based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe. This first version of the band included the guys who would later form Ambrosia and a few guys from 10cc.)

7. I begin dreaming
[title]
'Till I see Marianne walk away
I see my Marianne walkin' away

More Than a Feeling - Boston

8. He want to take you from the racket boss
He want to save you, but the cause is lost

Island Squirrel (are we doing that?) - Elton John

Bonus: What is the theme?

The ship set ground on the shore
of this uncharted desert isle
with Gilligan,
the Skipper, too,
a millionaire and his wife,
a movie star,
the professor and Mary Ann,
here on Gilligan's Isle.

Another fun game, elwood!!

Well, there's a millionaire, a Mary Ann (sorta), a first mate, and a movie star, so I'm gonna guess the theme is "people on Gilligan's island".

Gilligan's Island. This may have been tricky for some because most of the clues were in the lyrics rather than the titles.
Bebe got 2 points for the picture of the pirate squirrel and because she is a good girl. Yes you are. Yes you are.

LB got 2 points for the drawing of Angel doing the hula.

Estonut got a point for the information about Alan Parsons Project. And no, you don't have to replace Girl with Squirrel now.

BiT got a point for Roy Hinkley, which was the Professor's name on the show as I'm sure you trivia freaks know.
