Not as well know as some of the other recently departed folks. He was a Dutch soccer player back in the 1970s, played for the Dutch national team and some of the major European squads such as Barcelona and Ajax. Like many players of that era, he ended up his career in the original NASL, playing for the Los Angeles Aztecs and the Washington Diplomats for a collective two seasons.

A heavy smoker much of his life, Cruyff died of lung cancer, age 68.
