Good anti-virus protection?

About a million years ago, some of y'all posted good anti-virus protection brands. On that advice, I got Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and set it up to scan every day, but I have caught a horrific bug anyway. I'm not E-mailing any of my friends until I can get my new computer installed, hopefully tonight.
Actually, most of you said to install Malwarebytes and a second program, but I can't remember what it was. Please advise.
Also, any help on moving all my Word, Excel, and Adobe files over to the new computer would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

One of the best free ones is Avast.

It does a good job and does not have a HUGE footprint (does not require large amounts of system resources), as do the big boys like McAfee & Norton.
And yes, you need this antivirus in addition to the malware blocker. They protect you from different things.

Pay for the premium Malwarebytes so it will do an active scan. That is all I use.

You are not fully protected then. You need Malwarebytes in concert with antivirus software.
The Malwarebytes employee who authored the article linked below wrote:Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is not meant to be a replacement for antivirus software. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a complementary but essential program which detects and removes zero-day malware and "Malware in the Wild".

I failed to mention that I use Windows Defender.
