I am heading to Reno to play bridge blackjack craps and slots for the next 8 days. It is going to be fun.

My next 8 days will consist of 3 days of the routine drudgery of sitting behind two computer screens, trying to look busy to keep from getting fired, while commuting 1 hour each way through heavy rains and construction (with the occasional naked dancing woman) followed by 4 days of digging up shrubs, tilling the soil, planting new shrubs and hoping whatever made the others die was the window cleaner I used around Christmas and not something leaking into the soil, followed by another day of the work drudgery.

So you go ahead and have some fun. Someone has to. :)

I've always wondered how he was in a California for a crime committed in Nevada.

My problem is if I ever went there to play such games for eight days, I'd find I only had enough money for one.

The narrator never says that his confinement in Folsom is because of the shooting in Reno. The sociopath probably committed crimes in CA, too.

It's usually more convincing when you sit in front of the computer screens.

I'm here. Played a Compact Knockout. Qualified for the "loser" Swiss. --Bob

Not off to a great start. Won only one of our four matches in the Swiss, adding 0.20 to the 1.65 we got for winning our consolation match in the Compact Knockout. Total for the day, and cumulative for the tournament: 1.85. --Bob

A little better today. Finished 18th overall, 3rd in Stratum B, good for 5.69 points. Cumulative total for the tournament: 7.54. Tomorrow, another regional pairs game. --Bob

I remember too. Your fucking cell phone went off and the penalty cost us winning a ton of master points. :D :D

Well, this was a day of terrible, horrible, no good, very bad bridge. Neither partner nor I could do much of anything right to save our lives. No master points either session, so my cumulative total for the tournament remains unchanged.

Tomorrow, another of my regular partners arrives and we begin a two-day knockout. Here's hoping it is, in fact, a two-day event for us. I'm guessing we'll be in Bracket 2. --Bob

I forgot that with the major team event just getting rolling today, many good teams would be otherwise occupied. We were in Bracket 1. The random draw matched us up against the second seed. We beat them comfortably. As our reward for the win, the random draw matched us up against the top seed. Them, we didn't beat.

Still, winning one match in the top bracket was good for 4.50, bringing my cumulative total for the tournament to 12.04.

Tomorrow, another regional pairs game, and then I will finally get to play a national event, the Open Pairs. --Bob

Another day of lousy bridge. It's not the losing per se that bothers me so much as knowing that I'm playing badly enough that being in contention is just a pipe dream. Still stuck on 12.04 for the tournament.

Tomorrow, I'll be playing with a strong but infrequent partner in my first national event of the tournament, the Open Pairs. --Bob

This is getting monotonous. Another day, another shutout, and another quick exit from the event. Still stuck on 12.04 points for the tournament. Regional pairs tomorrow. Here's hoping partner and I are more in sync. --Bob

We had a couple of mediocre sessions today in the A/X regional pairs game. We were out of the overalls but each game was good for a low section scratch, for a total award of 1.37, bringing my cumulative total for the tournament so far to a disappointing 13.41.

Next will be the Fast Pairs, my last national event of the tournament. I've always thought the format was suited to my strengths. I guess we'll get some data points tomorrow (more precisely, later today). --Bob

Had an average first session and an above-average second session, so we comfortably qualified for the second (and final) day of the event. Picked up 1.40 platinum points, increasing my cumulative total for the tournament to 14.81. If we hold our current position, we'll pick up an overall award (which would be my first in an unlimited national event), but of course the competition tomorrow will be tougher.

After the game, snow permitting, I drive over the Sierras and head for home. --Bob

Made it home. In the finals, we had an average first session and a below-average second session, so I added nothing to my total and completed the tournament with a very disappointing 14.81 points. --Bob

It turns out (based on the official ACBL report that I've now received) that my single win in the "loser" Swiss the first Saturday was worth 0.25, rather than 0.20, so I ended the tournament with 14.86 points. --Bob
