Re: WWTBAM - renewed
I've been trying to figure out why it was renewed for a while now, but I think I've finally got it.
ABC has five game shows this summer after last summer having success with game shows.
If the syndicated version in the United States goes away, Disney (which owns ABC) loses the US rights to the show. I believe they would go to Sony.
Since Disney has a bunch of O&O's, they can renew it and not care how many stations around the country pick up the show, it will at least be on the O&O's. Disney also doesn't care what time of day it airs. The show is cheap enough to produce that it won't lose money, and even if it does, Disney will see it as a loss for potential future gain.
Enough people don't watch this show anymore, so many don't even know it's still on. If Disney decides to bring it back in prime time, most people will feel "oooh, the show is back". If this summer of game shows is also successful, I can see this coming to prime time next year.
For this reason, I could even see the show not doing a contestant search this year as they would already have enough people in the pool to get them through, plus a few additional people they might get from the audience tests.

Hasn't it said that since August? Or is this "coming soon" new wording?jarnon wrote:According to the Millionaire website,

I seem to remember something to the effect of "We are not holding auditions at this time" before, so I think this is new.triviawayne wrote:Hasn't it said that since August? Or is this "coming soon" new wording?jarnon wrote:According to the Millionaire website,

This wording seems new. Last I checked it was something to the effect that K.P. reported.
