In the latest round of political caucus-teases, five states voted.

On the GOP side, it's a good night so far for stereotypical cartoon railroad robber baron Ted Cruz. He won the Kansas and Maine caucuses.

On the Democratic side, it was a pair of wins in Kansas and Nebraska for liquefied hamburger connoisseur Bernie Sanders. T.J. Maxx succubus Hillary Clinton added Louisiana to her win column.

No final calls yet from the Kentucky caucus or the Louisiana primary, but creme brulee cesspool of catastrophe Donald Drumpf is ahead in both right now.

Louisiana was just called for Trump.

Kentucky went for Trump. Reports were that turnout was heavy, but that was probably due to the limited number of caucus sites - there were only 9 in Jefferson County, so there were long lines at each one. This wasn't an Iowa-style caucus where people speak on behalf of the candidates; it was more like a primary, with people casting ballots. There were "information tables" at the sites, however. The Kentucky Republican Party didn't do a very good job of getting the word out as to where the caucus locations were; my church is a polling place and several people came there looking for the caucus. Some even had postcards stating that the church was a caucus site, which it was not. Analysts say that although there were long lines at the caucus sites, the actual turnout was less than 20% of the registered Republicans in the commonwealth.

Do you think that was more a general incompetence from the folks who sent out the mailers*, or something along the lines of the last-minute phone calls for the general election saying "Republicans vote on Tuesday, Democrats on Wednesday"?

*Don't underestimate this. During the primary where Eric Cantor was defeated by Dave Brat, we kept getting mailers almost daily for Cantor, even though our precinct had been moved out of his district the prior election.

I don't know. I'm registered as a Republican and I didn't get anything at all in the mail regarding where the caucuses were being held; I went online and looked it up.

OK, I just became a believer in alternate universes where one minor change is all that separates one universe from the other. In the universe I lived in yesterday, Earendel would not have been registered as a Republican. When I woke up today-things just didn't feel quite right-now I know why.(LOL)-

Is SSS a dyed-in-the-wool NRA member who loves hunting and is a prominent advocate of open-carry in this universe? if not, that would be kind of a cool universe to wake up into.

I had the same kind of reaction to ear's declared Repub status. I however would not like to live in the SSS-open-carry etc universe. Needless for *me* to say.

My registration is more of a formality than anything else. My mother was a Republican and when I registered to vote that's what I chose. I think about changing it every now and again but Kentucky doesn't make it easy to do so, or rather I should say that there's a penalty involved - you have to change it a certain number of days before an election and given that Kentucky has elections three out of every four years, making the change can disqualify me from voting, so I just leave it as it is.
