Lyrically Speaking - 2/24/16

by Jim Cantore
Who says it has to be below freezing to have a beautiful snowfall? Several inches of wet, sloppy, 36 degree snow have already come down around LB's area this morning, and it put him in the mood to have his favorite dramatic meteorologist host this LSWE game for him featuring songs with titles or artists that remind him of this fine, wintry day! Have fun, and don't get distracted if I get all excited because I heard THUNDERSNOW!!!!!!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. You're digging for gold
Yet throwing away
A fortune in feelings
But someday you'll pay

2. You are a genie
And all I ask for is your smile
Each time I rub a lamp, la la la la
When I am with you
I have a giggling teen-age crush
Then I'm a-a sultry vamp, yeah, a sultry vamp

3. The mountain is high, the valley is low,
And you're confused 'bout which to go,
So I flew in to give you a hand,
And lead you into the promised land.

4. Police them come an' now they blow down me door,
One him come crawl through, through my window,
So then they put me in the back the car at the station,
From that point on me reach my destination,

5. You said no strings could secure you at the station.
Platform ticket, restless diesels, goodbye windows

6. When I was young my heart was young then, too
Anything that it would tell me, that's the thing that I would do
But now I feel such emptiness within
For the thing that I want most in life's the thing that I can't win

7. Thursday morning was a hot flash-factor
Her face still focused in my mind
Test-strip proof-sheet love is hard to find

8. If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

9. Kept on pursuing to the next stop
I busted a left and I'm heading to the next block
The block was dead
Yo so I continued to A1A Beachfront Avenue

10. I was totin` my pack along a dusty Winnemucca road
When along came a semi with a high canvas covered load
`If you`re going to Winnemucca, Mac with me you can ride.`
So I climbed into the cab and then I settled down inside

11. Once was a sweet thing, baby
Held that love in our hands
But now I reach to kiss your lips
It just don't mean a thing

12. Don't let them in, don't let them see
Be the good girl you always have to be
Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know
Well now they know

Okay, that was a guess. We know #12, though. Isabella (our cousin or our niece, or whatever) taught us this at Christmas.

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. You're digging for gold
Yet throwing away
A fortune in feelings
But someday you'll pay

COLD AS ICE, Foreigner?

2. You are a genie
And all I ask for is your smile
Each time I rub a lamp, la la la la
When I am with you
I have a giggling teen-age crush
Then I'm a-a sultry vamp, yeah, a sultry vamp

3. The mountain is high, the valley is low,
And you're confused 'bout which to go,
So I flew in to give you a hand,
And lead you into the promised land.

FREE RIDE, Edgar Winter?

4. Police them come an' now they blow down me door,
One him come crawl through, through my window,
So then they put me in the back the car at the station,
From that point on me reach my destination,

5. You said no strings could secure you at the station.
Platform ticket, restless diesels, goodbye windows

IN A WHITE ROOM, Cream

6. When I was young my heart was young then, too
Anything that it would tell me, that's the thing that I would do
But now I feel such emptiness within
For the thing that I want most in life's the thing that I can't win

7. Thursday morning was a hot flash-factor
Her face still focused in my mind
Test-strip proof-sheet love is hard to find

8. If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

9. Kept on pursuing to the next stop
I busted a left and I'm heading to the next block
The block was dead
Yo so I continued to A1A Beachfront Avenue

10. I was totin` my pack along a dusty Winnemucca road
When along came a semi with a high canvas covered load
`If you`re going to Winnemucca, Mac with me you can ride.`
So I climbed into the cab and then I settled down inside

11. Once was a sweet thing, baby
Held that love in our hands
But now I reach to kiss your lips
It just don't mean a thing

Be the good girl you always have to be
Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know

1. You're digging for gold
Yet throwing away
A fortune in feelings
But someday you'll pay
Cold As Ice - Foreigner (Or, as children know it, the Sesame Street theme...)

2. You are a genie
And all I ask for is your smile
Each time I rub a lamp, la la la la
When I am with you
I have a giggling teen-age crush
Then I'm a-a sultry vamp, yeah, a sultry vamp
Poetry Man - Phoebe Snow

From that point on me reach my destination,
Informer - Snow

5. You said no strings could secure you at the station.
Platform ticket, restless diesels, goodbye windows
White Room - Cream

6. When I was young my heart was young then, too
Anything that it would tell me, that's the thing that I would do

For the thing that I want most in life's the thing that I can't win

Freeze Frame - J Geils Band

8. If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?
Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol

9. Kept on pursuing to the next stop
I busted a left and I'm heading to the next block
The block was dead
Yo so I continued to A1A Beachfront Avenue
Ice Ice Baby - Vanilla Ice (Two #1 songs by white rappa posers in a game about snow.... imagine that...)

10. I was totin` my pack along a dusty Winnemucca road
When along came a semi with a high canvas covered load
`If you`re going to Winnemucca, Mac with me you can ride.`
So I climbed into the cab and then I settled down inside
I've Been Everywhere - Hank Snow (Snow had the hit, but most people seem to default to sound-alike Johnny Cash, who according to the all-knowing Wiki, didn't record the song until late in his career. BTW, while looking that up, I learned that the song was originally written by an Australian and featured "everywhere" places from Down Under. Snow later re-wrote it with the familiar North American cities...)

11. Once was a sweet thing, baby
Held that love in our hands
But now I reach to kiss your lips
It just don't mean a thing
Cold Shot - Stevie Ray Vaughan (I was surprised to see this didn't make any Billboard chart. The video got a lot of airplay on MTV back in the day....)

12. Don't let them in, don't let them see
Be the good girl you always have to be
Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know
Well now they know
Let It Go - Idina Menzel

Image Bonus: Show me something cold and wintry... - Another banner day for great, frosty images! The ice sculpture squirrel, the Lego Titanic scene, the great carrot robbery.... but I couldn't ignore that Sta-Puft Marshmallow Man picture Weasel buried in his collection of images. That is classic, and worthy of the IBB for this game.
