Marine Who Led Charge Up Mount Suribachi at Battle of Iwo Jima Dies at Age 94
In the World War II battle, 1st Lt. Wells led his platoon across open terrain for an assault on Japanese forces. His unit raised the first U.S. flag on top of Iwo Jima. Wells died on Feb. 11.
