Lyrically Speaking - 2/15/16

#1 Post by Bubba Squirrel » Mon Feb 15, 2016 7:53 am

Howdy, y'all. Seeing as today's that day that honors everyone lucky enough to get to sit in the Oval Office, LB was kind enough to let me host the LSWE game today. Guess he wants to tap into some of that Clinton charisma to give his pathetic contest a little boost. Well, I'm only too.... happy to.... ooooooh yeah, baby. Thanks, sweetie. Now why don't you burn that dress and go shred some more documents for the old lady like a good girl now. Mmmm....

Huh, where was I? Oh yeah, the game! Below are 12 songs that each peaked at #1 on the Billboard chart during the administration of one of the past 12 US Presidents.... from Truman to my boy Barry. You can get an extra point for matching each song up with the correct Chief Executive who was in office when it was a hit. Just remember to keep the Bushes straight.... damn, that always tickles me to think I was surrounded by Bush. Reminds me of my days at the Governor's mansion....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, and 1 point for the President who was in office when it was #1 (And you can guess at the songs you can't identify)...

1. Just listen to the music of the traffic in the city
Linger on the sidewalk where the neon signs are pretty
How can you lose?

2. I wish I could just make you turn around
Turn around and see me cry
There's so much I need to say to you
So many reasons why

3. Well, since my baby left
Well I found a new place to dwell
Well, it's down at the end of Lonely Street

4. I'm too hot (hot damn)
Called a police and a fireman
I'm too hot (hot damn)
Make a dragon wanna retire man

5. All I needed was a friend to lend a helping hand
But you turned into a lover and mother, what a lover, you wore me out

6. But I ain't never crossed a man that didn't deserve it
Me be treated like a punk, you know that's unheard of
You better watch how you talking, and where you walking
Or you and your homies might be lined in chalk

7. Greta Garbo, and Monroe
Deitrich and DiMaggio
Marlon Brando, Jimmy Dean
On the cover of a magazine

8. (Silly boy) told my girl we had to break up
(Silly boy) hoped that she would call my bluff
(Silly boy) then she said to my surprise

9. I never saw the boy before
So nothin' could be sillier
At closer range his face was strange
But his manner was familiar

10. See them out on the street at night, walkin'
Picking up on all kinds of strangers
If the price is right
You can't score if you're pocket's tight
But you want a good time

11. Don't try to fight the feelin'
Because the thought alone is killing me right nooww..
Uh, thank god for mom and dad
For sticking two together
'Cause we don't know hooowww...

12. Will you meet me in the middle, will you meet me in the air?
Will you love me just a little, just enough to show you care?
Well I tried to fake it, I don't mind sayin', I just can't make it

Kroxquo Bonus: Name a song with artist that mentions a specific US President somewhere in its lyrics.

Image Bonus: Show me something Presidential.

This is hard for us! We think we have figured out a couple of the songs, but not the presidents. Mr. President Obama has been the only president of the U.S. in our whole lives! (Maybe somebody else might have been prezzy when I was a baby, but I hadn't gone to home school yet and there wasn't any television in the animal shelter orphanage.) BeBe still hasn't studied much history yet. She asked me who Mr. President Truman was, and I told her he was one of the Founding Fathers. I will have to look that up.

Spoiler
12. Will you meet me in the middle, will you meet me in the air?
Will you love me just a little, just enough to show you care?
Well I tried to fake it, I don't mind sayin', I just can't make it

This is one of those lyric snippets that I can hear in my head (complete with some instrumental riff at the end of the quote), but I just can't link it to the rest of the song or the title. I waited all day to post this, just in case my subconscious could dig up the answer, but it didn't work.

Present.
