Non-playing captain

I stole an afternoon yesterday to play at a nearby sectional tournament. The Little Guy hasn't seen much of me lately, due to work, but it turns out that he had a play date scheduled yesterday, so he was otherwise occupied anyway.
When I got home there was a message waiting for me. A local player, Bruce (also a nice guy and an attorney I hope to cultivate as a referral source), is trying to complete a team for the Sunday team game. He's able to set me up with a player substantially better than my regular partner and wants to know if I'm interested.
I tell him that it only works if The Little Guy can come along. He's got no problem with that, of course. The Little Guy, on the other hand, is initially less than enthusiastic about the concept. So Bruce makes a suggestion. We can name The Little Guy as our non-playing captain. That means the team is listed under his name and he has the responsibility to report our results (at least when we win).
The Little Guy likes the idea. So today, at the San Fernando Valley Sectional, the team captained by The Little Guy came in third in the event. I hope he had enough fun to do it again. --Bob
