Breaking news so things are fuzzy.
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

I know folks can be overzealous (and that goes for all stripes within the political spectrum), and that seems to get magnified when one only seems to hear like-minded folks.
That being said, am I the only one who think these folks totally overplayed their hand from the git-go? Or did they just believe, like many folks do, that "we have a righteous cause, so everyone else is going to support us"?
First, the group takes over an isolated Federal area, trying to force the hand of the government over the imprisoning of two like-minded folks nearby the wildlife site, and they ask for others like them to show up.
Except (a) the folks go to prison, and tell the younger Bundy and company to go home, and (b) not a whole lot of other folks show up.
Then they say they'll stay as long as the locals support them. Except the locals, who are sympathetic to their cause, doesn't want them there. (BTW -- I somehow thought of this as a variation of NIMBYism. I'm sure they'd be publicly supporting them if they were still in Nevada, but not when they're running around their quiet town. Let's put it this way -- when a community that is used to rifles in trucks and open carry weapons get worried about these folks, that's not a good sign.)
And then they say they'll leave, but only if the charges are dropped. That doesn't happen.
And it goes on from there. Every step of the way, they've tried to dictate the terms. And folks say no.
I sincerely hope this ends without additional bloodshed.

Good. It would have been very easy to have made these folks into martyrs and folk heroes if the Feds had gone in with guns blazing early on (think of the Waco experience). They may still be heroes to some, but getting them off the property and into jail doesn't have the same effect in the court of public opinion.Bob Juch wrote:The last four have now surrendered.
