WWTBAM Bored

Li'l Spock had his first real date (Prom doesn't count) the other night with the Raven-Haired Beauty (RHB). The are both seniors. He didn''t tell us about it-We figured it out and he certainly didn't tell us with who. We assigned the Spocklette to find out and Narc on him. I don't think anything will come of it-but we would not mind if it did.

RHB's best friend is a red-headed senior (Ginger) who absolutely hates Li'l Spock. He makes her teeth grind.

The funniest part is that the Spocklette (9th Grade) and the RHB and Ginger are on the basketball team. Small town-9th graders through seniors practice at the same time and together and so forth and the RHB and, more so, Ginger have somewhat taken the Spocklette under their wing this season. Both these are great girls and we don't mind that the Spocklette is hanging with them a little. She is a very quiet and reserved girl who has a hard time making friends. Although, she is friends with a small group of girls and they did a Secret Santa this year-so we are glad for that.

Ginger has given the Spocklette a few rides-such as to the gas station for Pizza when they are waiting after school and even invited the Spocklette to her house for a bite to eat when they had a few hours to kill prior to a game. RHB was there also.

A few days prior to going to Ginger's house-She asked the Spocklette if we knew that he had taken the RHB on a date. She said "We knew he had a date, but he wouldn't tell us who." So we found out who.

The other night when Ginger gave the Spocklette a ride-she was telling her how she doesn't like Li'l Spock and thinks that he is very inconsiderate-(which as his dad-I have to say-she has a point-we have been telling him that for years.)-so she asks the Spocklette "Do you think he is inconsiderate" and of course, as his sister, she had to agree.

I am afraid for the romantic aspirations of Li'l Spock though-the best friend hates you-your sister is starting to hang with RHB and Ginger and Ginger is telling your sister how much she hates you.

I am most curious if he had to meet RHB's parents-the dad can be a little intimidating.

They went to Applebee's and a movie. The other part I want to know about his date is that there is a spooky abandoned state hospital in that town(larger town about half hour from our home turf) and whenever he and his buddies go there they drive around through there-He even guided us through there on Christmas Eve as we were coming back through that town. I hope he took RHB through there.

Update on the RHB

Her name has still not come out of his mouth in our presence. However, whenever Mrs S and I see her at basketball games-she just beams at us-so even if we didn't know-we could probably figure it out.

We sat by her Dad at a girls basketball game-not by choice-another friend was sitting there-we have never formally met-BTW, her dad is a trivia nut, also.

Anyway, he said to Mrs Spock-"You are Li'l Spock's parents-I am the RHB's Dad." She got the feeling that he knows a lot more about what is going on than we do-LOL.

Got to hand it to Li'l Spock-though-their second date (that we know of) -he took her to a water park (he had free tickets)-so he got to see her in a swimsuit. So he has that going for him.

The basketball team is teasing him mercilessly about her.

I drove him to school this morning and said "There is a certain young lady that always smiles at us when we see her. She is so far out of your league that you better ask her to prom." He said-"She did." Nor sure if he asked or she did?

Mrs S and I are joking that we need to get her a baseball bat for Valentine's Day so she can repeatedly remind him to "GET A CLUE." Even after a couple of dates and a lot of texting-he seems to be a little slow on the uptake. Not that he reminds me of anybody or anything (LOL)

With three sons, we made it through several of the "highschoolgirlfriends". Some we liked, some we didn't. You always have to stand back a bit as no matter how we felt about them we also knew that odds were that it would end sometime. And they did.

Now, when oldest son acquired the 'middleofcollegegirlfriend' that one was tougher. We REALLY liked this one and would have been happy if she turned out to be "The One". But alas, she wasn't.

Kind of happy that middle son is living in Australia now. We see FB picks of various female types but know absolutely nothing. I'm thinking that's for the best. There is this one blond though who has been showing up in more and more of the arm in arm pics though. hummmmmmm.

Update

OK, we kinda/sorta officially met her last night (Thursday). Home Basketball game-Double Header-Boys/Girls. RHB is on the girls' team, but only gets in at the end. She got in last night.

After the games-she came up and introduced herself to my parents. Not us, but my parents? He was still in the locker room and apparently told her to introduce herself.

Keep in mind, he has never told us about her. We have figured it out and thankfully, I told my parents'. Otherwise, picture the scene.

"Hi, I am the Raven-Haired Beauty." Grandma and Grandpa's potential response "Ok, and you are telling us this because?"

We were also close to them so we finally visited with her. Mrs. S told her that we wanted to get her a baseball bat and she agreed that it was needed and thought that was funny.

They are attending the same college, but that was decided independently, long before they were an item(If they are?) Li'l Spock absolutely would brook no conversation about her last night.

They did walk out together, and we happened to be parked close to them and the Spocklette saw him give her a hug at her vehicle before walking to his.

I can only imagine the sinking of his heart, when he came out of the locker room and saw us all standing together.

Early on, in the conversation, Ginger ("RHB's best friend-who hates Li'l Spock-see first post) tapped RHB on the arm to say goodbye and Ginger left. Mrs. S and I joked later that she went outside and barfed up a lung. "Oh, God, now she is meeting the family."

Prior to last night's meeting-Mrs S was questioning(bugging) Li'l Spock about getting RHB something for Valentine's Day. According to him-she said that he didn't have to get her anything. The innocent fool believes her-ha.

However, I suspect that she knows she is not dealing with the most romantic raw material in the universe and that any expectations on her part would send him running like a scared chicken.

She did get him to ask her to prom in person. Last year he asked another young lady via text. The unfortunate timing of Prom Invitations with Valentine's Day and a winter formal at school tomorrow night (which they are attending) are obviously confusing to the poor lad.

I also passed another milestone on the way to the grave tonight. Li'l Spock and I went to watch another basketball team and we stopped at a restaurant and the waitress flirted with him instead of me.

With the introduction, we seem to have crossed a milestone in that he now acknowledges the relationship and (according to Grandma) he really likes the RHB.

The winter formal dance does not usually attract Seniors-they get in free, but it is more for Sophomores and younger. I think Li'l Spock and one other Senior boy were the only 2 there.

Per th Spocklette, he hung with the RHB and her Posse (including Ginger) almost the whole time and he only went over to his posse of Sophomore boys a few times. (He hangs with mainly Sophomore boys).

As proof of his Twitterpatedness, per the Spocklette-During the song 'Thunderstruck" he laid on his back and played Air Guitar. To my knowledge, That really is not him-he is either Twitterpated or on Drugs-so I am going with Twitterpated.

I am really happy for Li'l Spock-mainly because while he will probably get his heart broken-It is much easier to get the second girlfriend once you have had the first one and he is several years ahead of me on the first girlfriend.

This is funny because we have talked far more about the relationship with the RHB, than we have with Li'l Spock. Her name has yet to cross his lips in our presence.

Last basketball game of the regular season and it was Senior Night, so the 5 seniors got to start tonight. Each starter got to toss out a small souvenir basketball to the fan of his choice.

RHB was working in the concession stand with her parents and told Mrs. S that she really wanted the basketball from Li'l Spock, but that he thought he should give the ball to his mother and she would be OK with that, but if he threw it to anybody else she would not be pleased.

Mrs. S told me about the controversy and I went to the stand and visited with her a little bit about it and I said that this is one of the times that you need the (afore-mentioned) baseball bat to use on him. Her Dad laughed when I said that. She also said that she would fight us for it.

This all took place during the first half of the Junior Varsity of the game with the Varsity players sitting together a few rows behind the JV team. I sent Li'l Spock a text and told him to get a clue and give the ball to RHB.

He did throw it to her, but most of the crowd could not see who he threw it too, because she was standing near the entrance to get back to the concession stand. However, his team-mates saw him do it and he got an "Aww" from the 8th and 9th grade basketball team.

Note: Not that this is a bad nickname, in fact it's rather complimentary. Far better than that of one of our middle son's brief GF's who I tended to refer to as "The Skanky one". Mrs. Jaybee was more complimentary and did use her name but had an automatic reaction of adding "I just don't like her" each time she said her name.

Set some kind of record today-I attended 5 High School boys basketball games with Li'l Spock.

There were 4 consecutive tournament games in Montevideo (about 60 miles away) -2 players on one of the teams were on his AAU team so he wanted to see them play (Our team doesn't play till Thursday). His buddies played in the first game so we just stayed all day. Then another team that we wanted to see was playing on the way home so we watched that one too.

Another high school teammate and his dad were there for part of the day and the dad was complimenting Li'l Spock on his prom date-He was standing near when he threw the ball to her. He is kinda/sorta happy/proud to be teased about her-even if he doesn't say much.

At this point, the mustachio'ed villain in our little melodrama appears to be Ginger. However, I reserve the right to rename the RHB-"The Trampy Trollop"-(LOL)-no, not really-I just am happy that something(?) that seems pretty innocent is going on between them and I expect her to toss him under the bus at any time.

A little background on RHB and her posse that he hung with a couple of weeks ago ago. It appears to be about as wholesome of a group as you can find.

The silent one is a Mormon girl who is taking college classes the last 2 years of high school, so she is kind of out of the loop on things. Minnesota High School kids can take free college classes the last 2 years of high school. We have 3 options within easy driving distance, so a fair number of kids do this.

We have a small, but growing, Mormon contingent within our school system. You put a couple of large families into a smallish school system, their presence is almost ubiquitous because everybody has one of them in their class.

RHB is the daughter of a pastor of a small church, plus has another job on the side. Not that pastor's daughters can't be skanky, but given that her parents seem to know more of what is going on, it appears that they are in control of the situation at this point at least. However, as most of us probably know, that can/will change dramatically once in college.

RHB has also been taking college classes her junior and senior year, so I have to hand it to Li'l Spock. He is apparently successfully competing against college boys.

Now to the villain, Ginger. Ginger was homeschooled till 10th Grade and is the daughter of a doctor. Mrs S has more knowledge of him than I do and she often says that he lacks a filter between his brain and his tongue. He is also one of "Those" wrestling parents who almost have to be escorted out of wrestling matches.

Ginger apparently inherited his lack of filter. We got Li'l Spock talking about her last night and one day she told him-"I really don't like you very much." His response (unspoken to her) was "OK, what did I ever do to you?"

I mean, really, who says that to anyone?

I give RHB some credit for independently looking at Li'l Spock and not blindly listening to Ginger.

From what I've seen, it's all to common for a high school girl to dump her high school boyfriend because her high school best friend doesn't like him.

Just about as common as the same high school girl dumping her now former bestie and choosing to keep the boyfriend around.

Sounds like your son is being very classy and the Ginger is not. That can influence how things go even to a high school RHB.

This is why most people would rather not relive their lives if given the chance - they'd have to go through HS again.

I found the following Ginger thing kind of amusing. Mrs. S said I am the only person that would catch this.

The girls basketball team had their Senior night recently. A paper is included with the program where the senior girls's bio and a few stupid questions such as 'Which cartoon character would you like to be?"

Ginger answered "Jane's dad from Tarzan." IIRC, he was kind of a scatterbrained/mad scientist professor type guy.

Back when Li'l Spock was much younger -maybe late preschool/early elementary we always taped two cartoons for him to watch. They were the Tarzan cartoon and the Buzz Lightyear cartoon. Frankly, I really liked the Tarzan one.

When you see/get to know your kid's classmates as Seniors or older high school-you never really put together that they were part of the same cohort as your kid with the same cartoons and stuff.

I like Ginger better now that she liked Tarzan.

This episode falls under the "Play the Cards You are Dealt" Category.

The relationship seems to be slowly progressing along. We are informed of very little.

Tuesday night-I went to a livestock sales barn and bought 6 baby calves (probably less than one week old)-I have 6 calf hutches and the last couple nights Li'l Spock and the other 2 have been helping me with them-Teaching them to drink from a bottle-(most seem to have this figured out)-Castrating them and moving them into their hutches.

4 of them are Black and White Holsteins and the other 2 are Red and White Holsteins. They are all cute but the Red and White ones are simply adorable. I am guessing that Li'l Spock Snapchatted some pics of these calves during his endless phone time with the RHB.

This evening, all 3 of the kids were helping Dad and I change around tires on a tractor and put on the duals and so forth. About halfway through-I told the Spocklette to start feeding calves and do the 5 that are drinking by themselves.

Li'l Spock made it very clear that he wanted to do the other one that needs a lot of help. OK, whatever.

Sometime during this time-I walked out of the shop and the RHB is walking across the driveway. My mouth just about hit the ground. I asked her if she was lost-She lives at least 35 miles away towards the other end of our long and narrow school district. I asked her if Li'l Spock knew she was coming. She said "Yes, and he didn't tell you did he?" Perfect example of why she needs that baseball bat.

The penny dropped as to why he wanted to feed the calf. When I looked down there-they were both in the hutch-I didn't want to bother them so I called Mrs S and said-start cleaning the house because RHB might come.

However, the last that I know-they went of riding the ATV. I am guessing he showed her various points of interest-Some of which are some pretty good parking spots-but whatever.

At this point-I don't think she will come to our house-we live about 2 miles from the main farm location as she is likely to want to get going home.

Here is a picture of the calf hutch. Oh well, after she kicks Li'l Spock to the curb and wherever life takes her, she can say she had a date in a calf hutch. Not every girl can say that. Even though this is a farming area, there really is not a lot of livestock in the school district-so it is unusual even for here.

A tradition is to go to somebody's house and take pictures in the afternoon. Mrs S was laughing about Li'l Spock's cluelessness. They were watching out the window as one couple pulled up. He helped her get out of the car and held her dress and so forth.

Not Li'l Spock-it apparently never dawned on him. He got out and left her to her own devices. At Grand March-I told her that she looked nice. She thanked me and said Li'l Spock never said that. I told her she needs that baseball bat.

She is definitely not high-maintenance.

As they are seniors, Summer and then the where-they-go-to-college thing will be a test.

Obviously, the red-head in the prom series of photos is the villain of our piece (Ginger) LOL.

At this point, they are going to the same college. Those decisions were made long before they started dating.

They seem to be taking things really slow which may work in the long-term if that is what they want.. They are not together every weekend and so forth. She came out and rode in the tractor with him and so on and so forth. We can account for most of his time and we can't place him at her house much. Remember it is in the neighborhood of 35-40 miles to her house. She is at the other end of the school district.

Background Info #1---A few days after prom, Li'l Spock mentioned that there weren't any slow dances during prom. He said "I thought that was the whole purpose of prom." So, he obviously had some disapointed aspirations of some slow dancing with the RHB.

Background Info #2--Our Dean of Students has a soft spot for Littlest Spock-the 7th Grader, mainly because you just never know what is going to come out of his mouth at any given time.

Last Friday, there was a final school dance and the Spocklette and Littlest Spock told us that Li'l Spock and the RHB were slow dancing. Then a couple of days later we heard this story from the Dean of Students.

Apparently, Littlest Spock was slow dancing with one of the Senior Girls (way to go bud) and she had told him that during slow dances you are supposed to leave enough room for Jesus between the 2 of you.

Later in the evening, Littlest Spock told the Dean of Students that Li'l Spock and the RHB were slow dancing, but that there sure wasn't any room for Jesus between them.
