Pro Football Hall of Fame Finalists

To be elected, a finalist must receive a minimum of 80 percent of the votes cast by the selection panel. A maximum of eight inductees are allowed per year.

Two senior finalists — players whose careers ended more than 25 years ago — were announced last August: Ken Stabler and Dick Stanfel.

A contributor finalist announced in September was Edward DeBartolo Jr., owner of the San Francisco 49ers from 1977-2000.

The class of 2016 will be decided on Feb. 6, the day before the Super Bowl, with inductions scheduled for August.

Although, I must admit I have no idea who Alan Faneca is.

Faneca was one of the NFL’s best blockers for 13 seasons and 206 games, making the All-Decade Team of the 2000s. A six-time All-Pro, he anchored the offensive lines of the Steelers, Jets and Cardinals, winning one Super Bowl.

His wiki article says "A nine-time All-Pro and nine-time Pro Bowl selection, Faneca won a Super Bowl ring with the Steelers in Super Bowl XL."

Favre: Lock.

Stabler: One of those guys I thought was inducted years ago. This year might ironically be his best year of getting inducted, considering that he just passed away last year. Kinda like how Ron Santo finally got voted into the Baseball HOF and Donna Summer finally got voted into the Rock & Roll HOF shortly after they died.

Davis, Dungy, and Warner: Likely will be inducted this year. I'd say Warner would get the most votes, then Davis, then Dungy.

Andersen and Pace: I would vote for them, but the committee might feel differently about them this year. Andersen should be a lock as the NFL's all-time scorer, but kicking sort of comes off as a thankless job, as very few kickers are even in the HOF.

Harrison, James, and Owens: Marginal. Might have to wait a while before seeing Canton.

I agree. Given the number of iconic moments that involved Stabler, I'm frankly shocked that he's not already in the Hall. --Bob

Given the sympathy vote, it was probably a sure thing he was going to get in this time. He did deserve it on merit though.

Although he died of cancer, it's just been revealed he was also suffering from CTE as well.
