Plaxico Burress shoots himself again - metaphorically

Plaxico Burress pleads guilty to tax evasion charge. This is for the State of New Jersey, not IRS.

Former New York Giants football star Plaxico Burress in Mercer County Superior Court on Monday agreed to serve five years probation and 364 days in jail for failing to pay $46,000 in taxes on his $1 million income in 2013.
Basically, he "tried" to pay this in 2014 with an EFT that kicked out, which is treated the same way as a bad check. Of course, when the tax folks try to contact you about it and you don't respond, that usually leads to one or more books being thrown at you.
In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors dropped an additional charge of issuing a bad check or electronic funds transfer, a third-degree felony....Burress must repay his back taxes, with interest, by the time the probation period ends or face jail time, prosecutors said.
Which means he never has made the original $46k payment good. Five years to get it caught up (with interest) sounds pretty lenient.

I'm still upset with Burress about his stunt in 2008. When that happened, the Giants were 10-1 with probably the best team in the league. They still managed to rally to beat Washington pretty soundly the week after the Burress incident, but then completely fell apart after that, going from 11-1 to 12-4 and a listless first round playoff exit. I still think that had Burress not acted like an idiot, the Giants would have defended their title.

Every once in a while, my father says the same thing. 2008 was the best team and then it was a one-dimensional offense w/o him, opponents could gang up on the run. Before the injury, the Giants beat the two Super Bowl teams that year, Arizona and Pittsburgh, both on the road. Plax was a risk and fortunately he was part of one Super Bowl winner before the injury.
