Peter Robbins, who was the first voice of
Peanuts character Charlie Brown in a series of television specials, has been sentenced to nearly five years in jail for making criminal threats. Robbins has been in jail since February, when he violated his probation on earlier charges of stalking his ex-girlfriend. This time, he sent threatening letters to the manager of the trailer park where he lived and offered to pay members of the media to kill the San Diego sheriff. While in court in June, he told the judge, "I hope you drop dead of a heart attack." He now acknowledges he is mentally ill.
Robbins, 59, supplied the voice of Charlie Brown in
A Charlie Brown Christmas and
It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. He quit acting at age 13.
