Looking for a rare movie-Take it away SSS

#1 Post by Spock » Mon Dec 07, 2015 11:20 am

"Shangani Patrol" -I believe it was a South African movie-circa 1970. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0367031/

Can't find it on the usual suspects-Ebay, Youtube, etc-Not sure if it was ever released on video or DVD. Seems to be widely panned, but I don't care.

Found it doing preparation Googling for the upcoming holidays. Not Christmas, in my case, but Isandlwana/Rourkes's Drift Day-January 22/23-(LOL)-The holidays are extra special in the Spock household this year with the upcoming release of The Splendid Savage, a new Frederick Russell Burnham biography on January 25. The kids are really looking forward to it.

Spock:

The movie can be found on DVD. Here's a couple of places that advertise it:

http://www.rhodesiawassuper.com/The-BSA ... _p_76.html

There's been some favorable feedback about the version that's sold by Memories of Rhodesia. I think these are DVD's and that they aren't bootlegs, but it would probably be a good idea to check and also to check and see if it's in a format that's compatible with your equipment. Movies like this turn up on Ebay from time to time, but that's very hit and miss.

I hope this helps.

By the way, the cast includes Will Hutchins, TV's Sugarfoot. His show alternated with Cheyenne and Bronco on TV around 1960.

Thanks. I see it listed as both PAL or NSTC-which kind of equipment am I most likely to have?

NTSC is standard North American equipment; PAL is in Europe. If you bought a DVD player from any standard retailer, it's NTSC.

You could just read the web page.
The author of the 'Memories of Rhodesia' page wrote:A note on our DVD products: Our DVD's are taken from original 16mm and 8mm films or VHS tapes. They are digitally captured and enhanced with the finished product being better than the original, but they are not full restorations. They remain old footage, at least 40 years old, which have often not been cared for. You are not getting Hollywood quality products! All our DVD products are fully tested before they leave our premises. We will replace any defective item within 30 days. We do ask that the original disc be returned to us first. Our DVD's are on DVD-R media, please make sure that your player is compatible with this format. Thank you.
