There's also a hostage situation at a Paris theater.

Have they said if any Americans were involved?
My step niece is in France (Provence) studying art this year. I hope she didn't decide to visit Paris this weekend. Her mim )my SIL) is on a plane right now (ironically, to the Middle East) and probably has zero clue that something is going on.

It's about as bad as it can get. There were a coordinated series of attacks. 150 dead so far, most of them at a concert theater where a hostage situation developed. They also set a bomb off at the main soccer stadium where there was a France/Germany match going on.

I read that the bomb went off outside the stadium. --Bob

Update on family-
SIL is flying through Ansterdam instead of Paris this trip. I bet you can't get into or out of the airport there. Niece is safe in Axe-Provence. The university has cancelled all off campus trips this weekend. Smart move on their part.

Kazoo, prayers of safety for your folks. There was a Belgium raid, and Amsterdam isn't so peachy. We have friends there now, too.

Yes, a security guard wouldn't let the bomber in the gate; he backed away and detonated.

A woman from California was killed. They're still sorting things out so there may be more.

The one I heard about was a student from Long Beach State in a Study Abroad program. --Bob

Let's not forget that a day before the Paris attacks, similar attacks occurred in Beirut. --Bob

A soccer match in Berlin between Germany and the Netherlands that was scheduled for today was cancelled 90 minutes before it was scheduled to start due to a bomb threat.
