I haven't read it yet, but I had to post it when I saw this great quote: “The majority defines freedom of speech as meaning they get freedom of speech and not anyone else.”

I guess I'm in "the majority" since I'm a white male (though I have no religious background), but I'm pretty sure there are a lot of things I can't publicly say without repercussions that those who would consider themselves minorities can say. So I'm not getting the brilliance of this quote...

What I've observed is that nearly everybody believes in freedom of speech, but make exceptions for offensive speech, and it's always something the other guy says that they find offensive.

I am guessing that the Yale students would be upset if somebody wore a sombrero to a Halloween party. Remembered today about a student in my first year of college (1985) who went as an abortionist-white coat with blood on it and a coat hanger. Not sure if that would fly today or not.

Funny you should mention that. There was a flap here in Louisville regarding the president of the University of Louisville and some of his staff attending a Halloween party dressed in serapes, sombreros and fake thick black moustaches.
