Fiona Morton (carryover contestant)
Stamford, CT
Baker

Fiona is a Brit, a baker and an animal noise maker.

Meredith: Last time you were here, you did a chicken, you did a cat, and I understand you can do a monkey.

Fiona: I want more money for the monkey, Meredith.

Meredith: You want more--

Fiona: Yeah. That's a special one!

Meredith: Do you want to play for more money?

Fiona: I do!

Meredith: Then let me hear the monkey.

Fiona does her monkey imitation.

$16,000
Which of the following is not a lyric from Bob Dylan's rock ballad "Like a Rolling Stone"?

A: With no direction home B: To be on your own
C: When you're all alone D: Like a complete unknown

Fiona thinks the answer is C, but she says she can't risk $7,000. She said up in the green room that she wasn't going to risk it.

Fiona. I am going to walk with my eight.

Meredith: Is that a final?

Fiona: Oh, God!

Fiona agonizes a few more seconds.

Fiona: Oh, bugger! C, final answer.

Fiona says it was really stupid to change her game plan and take that gamble, but "the blonde took over."

$25,000
Which of these cloud types does the National Weather Service describe on its Web site as "hairlike"?

A: Cumulus B: Nimbostratus
C: Stratocumulus D: Cirrus

Fiona has an idea again--she thinks it's cirrus--but she's definitely not going to do that again.

Fiona walks with $16,000.

Answers:
$16,000: C: When you're all alone
$25,000: D: Cirrus

Looks like I was wrong about her being one and done®. She was two and done.

I would've been in great shape once again, $25K banked and all four lifelines available.

But she didn't! She walked away.

Is anyone familiar with British television standards? Did Fiona get away with uttering a curse words that they would have bleeped on the British version of the show?

The $16K question would have been another Lyrically Speaking nightmare for me. Asking for just about the entire set of lyrics to the song? I'd have reached for the ATA in a heartbeat!

I'm not British, of course. Our Christie is probably the best one to answer this. But I did find this:

–noun Chiefly British Slang.
the buttocks; rump.

Again, not a bad imitation.

There's a line very similar to the correct response - "to be on your own" - which may be why Fiona was reluctant to pull the trigger. Good for her for making the attempt.

Too bad she didn't go for it again, but I can sympathize with her.

I've heard cirrus clouds called "mare's tail", so it makes the most sense. Also "cirrus" is a name for a clump of hair cells.

So I'd be going for $50K with all my lifelines available.
