Another live mascot goes away

At least this one didn't go out the way the most recent Bevo did.
Uga IX (aka Russ) is retiring after this year. He'll be replaced next year by Uga X (Que).
Russ was originally an interim mascot after Uga VII (aka Loran's Best) died unexpectedly in 2009. Midway through the following season, he yielded the position to Uga VIII (Big Bad Bruce). However, Uga VIII was soon diagnosed with canine lymphoma. Russ then received a "battlefield promotion" to become Uga IX.
Que is the grandson of Russ. All Ugas have been descended from the original Uga (Hood's Ole Dan, 1956-1966), who himself was the grandson of a bulldog that accompanied the team to The Rose Bowl game in 1943, which Georgia won over UCLA, 9-0.

Of course, I prefer this image of Russ, for obvious reasons:

I wish my alma mater was still allowed to bring its live mascots to games.

Why not? There was never an incident of one of our bears attacking anyone. All the bears cared about was getting Dr Pepper and Oreos.

Bad as this Tech season has been (other than one game against Florida State), I can at least take comfort in knowing that no one in the state is really paying any attention since they are all much more upset about the latest in the series of "national champions in waiting" Georgia Bulldog teams that have spectacularly crashed and burned. Yesterday's 27-3 debacle against Florida, coupled with the earlier Alabama game, made me feel much, much better.
