Game #156: Songfest

Identify each of the 100 songs below. Then, match them into 21 pairs, 13 groups of three, 5 groups of four, and 5 groups of five.

Fifteen of the songs will be used twice, two will be used three times, one will be used four times and one will be used five times. Some of these will be used more than once in exactly the same way. (You’ll see.)

It’s also quite possible I may have missed some legitimate matches. (We’ll see.)

1. Like a river flows
Surely to the sea
Darling, so it goes
Some things are meant to be.

2. My love is yours, baby
Oh, right from the start.
You, you, you possess my soul now, honey,
And I know, I know you own my heart.

3. Red light, yellow light, green-a-light go!
Crazy little woman in a one man show
Mirror queen, mannequin, rhythm of love
Sweet dream, saccharine, loosen up.

4. Bonedigger, Bonedigger,
Dogs in the moonlight
Far away my well-lit door.
Mr. Beerbelly, Beerbelly,
Get these mutts away from me
You know I don't find this stuff amusing anymore.

5. I want to stand with you on a mountain,
I want to bathe with you in the sea,
I want to lay like this forever
Until the sky falls down on me.

6. Last night I held Aladdin's lamp
And so I wished that I could stay.
Before the thing could answer me
Well, someone came and took the lamp away
I looked around, a lousy candle's all I found.

7. The story's in the past
With nothing to recall
I've got my life to live
And I don't need you at all,

8. This lying and cryin' is upsettin' and gettin' nowhere.
It don't stack up, so slack up and pack up
I just don't care.
Don't let the screen door hit you on your way out.
Don't you drown when your dream boat runs onto the ground.

9. A circumstance beyond our control, oh oh oh oh oh oh,
The phone, the tv and the news of the world
Got in the house like a pigeon from hell, oh oh oh oh oh oh,
Threw sand in our eyes and descended like flies.

10. I dodged the same old taxicabs that I had dodged for years,
The chorus of their squeaky horns was music to my ears.

11. Baby hair with a woman's eyes
I can feel you're watching in the night
All alone with me and we're waiting for the sunlight.

12. Now I like you, lady
So fine with your pretty hair
If you don't mind my compliments
Just diggin' on the clothes you wear
I'm just a man and I got your fear
I can love you now I brought you here.

The trick, you said, was never play the game too long.

Make it somehow all seem worthwhile?
How on earth did I get so jaded?
Life's mysteries seem so faded.

18. While you're out painting the town,
Do you think I'm home just sitting around
Waiting on you?
Now who's really the fool?

19. Like an eagle protects his nest, for you I'll do my best
Stand by you like a tree, dare anybody to try and move me.
Darling, in you I found strength where I was torn down
Don't know what's in store but together we can open any door.

2. My love is yours, baby
Oh, right from the start.
You, you, you possess my soul now, honey,
And I know, I know you own my heart.
Diana Ross Someday we’ll be together
Ironically, this song was released as "Diana Ross and the Supremes," even though Ross was the only member of the group whose voice is on the recording - the backing vocals are by session artists.
Her next song "Reach Out and Touch (Somebody's Hand)," became her first solo single.

Everything on here is correct, and you can add in all but one of Melly's 11 additional identifications as correct.

Think I've got at least part of it.

Many of the titles have the title of another song with a shorter title inside them. Like #1 has Help, which is a song by the beatles. I've put the names of artists by the ones I could think of just on a short quick pass. I also consolidated the answer that have been proposed since the last consolidation. There are several songs like this by the Beatles, Lionel Richie, and George Michael, just to name a few. So if there are 4 Beatles titles "hiding," then the fifth song of that grouping could be Dizzy Miss Lizzy.

Not saying all of these are right, or anywhere close to it, but I think there are too many for it to be a coincidence.
