When the weather guy predicts 17 inches of rain

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

The thought that I am not chairman of the county Red Cross this time, just made me smile.

But now you won't get first dibs on the bags of ice.

Good luck this weekend.

It's probably going to be over 20 during three days. Blame global warming.

Not bad here, but Charleston has bad street flooding and government offices have closed

I hope you realize that's not from Joaquin. That's the storm before it that's bringing rain to the entire NE. Joaquin is still off the coast of Cuba.

Exactly. Anyone living in the area is familiar with the rain situation, as are those with families and friends on top of it.
Well, then

Someone posts about potential devastation and you make light of it? I'd say "joke," but it was hardly that.

Kind of like smiling about not being head of the local Red Cross. Though really I don't see any reason to justify my tone to you. --Bob

The background of my Red Cross comment is that I was Chairman of my county Red Cross from July 1989 to June 1991. September 22, 1989 Hugo came blowing through. The current record for rainfall here was set August 1990 by rain from Tropical Storm Marco, there was extensive flooding.

All good here - we live on the second floor at the top of a hill so all we have to deal with is a few of those water bugs who crawl up the pipes when it rains.

They are UGH but not dangerous.

What part of "will impact much of the East Coast this weekend" do you not understand? I was talking about the then current storm.
