$1k: Snoopy's medeals didn't click to me until after the event. ATA.

$2k: I honestly didn't remember the spellings of any of them. +1 and thankfully my dad knew the answer I'd still be playing.

$3k: 50/50 and hope Maria stays (as I know she's a famous Russian tennis player). I could be done already here.

$7k: Would've guessed Lord of the Rings after ruling out Narnia.

$10k: I'd definitely BOMB out with $5,000 here. I was thinking it was spelled Ottowa. :(

I tried getting MarleysNephew to try out for this special week, but I couldn't convince him. (So much for his obsessive uncle's chance to be a +1, at least). When Ben was introduced, I couldn't help thinking he'd taken my nephew's spot as the Californian contestant of the week. But I've got to admit, TPTB were looking for not only top grades but also for some big extracurricular achievements.

Ben's was writing an app to help drivers of electric cars plan a trip (by mapping nearly charging stations, I presume), which got him invited to be an intern at Tesla Motors.

I might have yelled at the television a little bit on this one. How did Ottawa get two Os?

5K: ATA (never heard song, & liked C because at least it rhymed with 1st phrase; silly me)

10K: What hurt most watching this is that both student & his Mom thought Ontario was a city, not the province.

I guess with cars able to park themselves, there's no need for this.

Since his mom was his +1, you'll have to include her school years in "these days".
