grrrrr...I'm so frustrated

A couple weeks ago I posted that my computer had contracted some malware. I got that taken care of but apparantly there are some unresolved issues.
1. Windows update doesn't run - the system throws an error message that has a number. I Googled the number and found a resolution, but when I try to implement it, the computer says I don't have Internet access. How could I have Googled the number if I couldn't access the Internet?
2. My McAfee firewall is preventing me from accessing certain sites, even though I have configured it to allow access to the ports specified for the site. I tried temporarily shutting off the firewall but that didn't work. I tried to configure the Windows firewall but the system says that it's being controlled by McAfee.
3. To top it all off, I have a wireless printer but when I try to connect I get a message saying that there's a router conflict.

McAfee is evil. I'd replace it with Bitlocker. Have you run Malwarebytes to scan everything?

Just buy a new computer. At least, that's the solution that I would have to use!

I had a fellow church member, who runs an IT business, take care of cleaning the computer of infections. I presume that he did everything necessary. The issue is with Internet connectivity, it seems, since Windows Update won't run and when I try to fix it, the computer says it's not connected to the Internet, even though it is. I have to use McAfee because that's what the government requires for anyone who wants to work from home.

Ah, I have a company laptop with McAfee. I can't install anything on it.
Have you run the Windows Network Diagnostics and Windows Update Troubleshooter apps? Even though your fellow church member should know what he's doing I'd still install Malwarebytes and use to do regular scans.

I can't run those because my computer thinks it doesn't have access to the Internet, even though it does.

Windows 8 laptops have problems with staying connected, even when it looks like they are connected. The problem may persist with Windows 10.
1. In your browser, choose advanced options and clear your cashe.
2. close browser, then click on icon showing you are connected to wifi
3. disconnect from your wifi
4. from your start menu, open that black box that looks like it did in the DOS days (I think it's called admin prompt)
5. type the following at the prompt: ipconfig/flushdns
5a. hit enter
6. close black box
7. reconnect to your wifi
8. reopen your browser
it will work again for a while until it doesn't.

I flushed the dns cache but that didn't solve the problem.

Windows Network Diagnostics is already on your computer and is designed to fix your problem. Run it by right-clicking the network icon in the notification area, and then clicking Diagnose and repair.

did you do it with the other steps I gave you?
flushing alone doesn't get the job done for me, but I've found if I do the procedure I gave you, it works.
There is also a way to decide what servers to route through, I did something with that several months ago, but don't remember any of what I did. I have had better performance since doing it though.
I found everything online except the steps I gave you, that I came up with on my own and it's been working for me. I have Windows 8 and don't intend to upgrade for a while yet.

I've also found using firefox keeps me from going to several sites, I had to switch to chrome.
